On Tuesday 11th March, police divers recovered a body from a stretch of the River Avon near Chippenham following the disappearance of 21-year-old Sebastian Sailes.
Sebastian, a UWE student, was last seen on Lovers Walk in Chippenham at around 11.30 pm on Thursday 27th February after leaving the Black Horse Pub. Since he was reported missing almost two weeks ago, Wiltshire Police have said that volunteers from Wiltshire Search and Rescue, Lowland Rescue Oxfordshire, local businesses and support charities have worked “tirelessly” to locate Sebastian.
The family of Sebastian have been informed of the latest development and formal identification will take place in due course. Detective Superintendent James Brian said the development would be “devastating” for his family and offered his “sincere condolences.”
In a public appeal for information issued on 5th March, his family said they were “very close”, describing him as a “much-loved son.”
The disappearance is the third young male to go missing from Bristol or the surrounding area. All three of the men went missing near a river. It is believed the body of Luis Piovesana was found last week but Avon and Somerset policy confirmed there was no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
Jack O’Sullivan went missing on March 2nd last year and police are still appealing for information relating to his disappearance.
