Nando’s has taken a cheeky jab at Donald Trump’s offer of refugee status to Afrikaners on their X account.
This comes after the US president issued an executive order for white South Africans to be given asylum in America.
Over the past week, Trump and his SA-born advisor Elon Musk have accused the country of implementing “race-based discrimination” and “confiscating land’. This emanates from SA President Cyril Ramaphosa’s recent signing of the Expropriation Act.
NANDO’S POKES FUN AT TRUMP, AFRIKANERS?
On it’s X account, Nando’s kicked off Monday with an Afrikaans greeting.
“Môre môre. Hoe gaan dit?” read the tweet, no doubt poking fun at the Afrikaner community.
Followers caught on to the gag, responding in broken Afrikaans.
When one tweep claimed that they would “Voetsek to Amerika” and questioned if they could find a Nando’s abroad, the cheeky chicken franchise responded: “Nee, ek bly stil hier in Suid-ahh”
Another mentioned the boer community [farmers[, to which Nando’s responded: “n Boer maak ‘n plan, maar Nando’s sal ‘n better plan maak later!”
To a third, the admin behind the account claimed it was staying put, despite Trump’s offer. “Ek is lief vir die Suid”, responded the account.
‘WE ARE GOING NOWHERE’
Meanwhile, NGO AfriForum – which promotes the interests of Afrikaners – has rejected Donald Trump’s offer to seek asylum in the US.
CEO Kallie Kriel said in a media briefing: “We are indigenous to this country, and we are going nowhere. We are not going to ask our children to move to another country now. The fact is, our ancestors worked hard to make sure that we as a people are formed down in the southern tip of Africa.
“We’re not going to disrespect that. We also have the interests of future generations in mind.
AfriForum thanked Trump and his administration for “recognising the discrimination that Afrikaners face through racial legislation.”
He added: “But we have to state categorically: we don’t want to move elsewhere.”
WOULD YOU CONSIDER MOVING TO THE US?
