Eskom is implementing Stage 3 load shedding until further notice.

Stage 3 load shedding was implemented from 17:30 on Saturday, 22 February.

ESKOM CONFIRMS RETURN OF LOAD SHEDDING

In a statement, the power utility said following over 20 days of uninterrupted electricity supply, it has encountered another temporary setback.

“As a result, Stage 3 load shedding will be implemented from today at 17:30 until further notice. Eskom will give an update on Sunday 23 February 2025,” the power utility said.

Following over 10 months of uninterrupted electricity supply, the power utility implemented Stage 3 load shedding in the beginning of February.

The power utility said this was due to several breakdowns that required extended repair times.

The rolling blackouts returned just a day after the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) approved a 12.7% electricity tariff hike.

Eskom had requested a 36% tariff hike, but the energy regulator approved a 12.7% for the 2025/2026 financial year, followed by further hikes of 5.36% for 2026/2027 and 6.19% for 2027/2028. The hike comes into effect on 1 April 2025.

Despite outrage from political parties and South Africans at large, Eskom assured that its summer outlook will not change.

DO YOU TAKE ESKOM’S WORD THAT ITS LOAD SHEDDING SUMMER OUTLOOK WILL NOT CHANGE?
