After a four-month standoff, an Orlando Pirates-Monnapule Saleng reunion is expected before the end of the season.
The 27-year-old winger, featureless since December 7, looked set for an offseason exit as negotiations went sour amid salary demands the club felt were excessive.
According to Saleng’s childhood friend, Boikanyo Maine, the former PSL Player of the Year earns R70,000 monthly, a stark contrast to some of his peers, including Patrick Maswanganyi.
Saleng back in the mix
Saleng’s return to training has fans in dreamland. As he continues to work towards match fitness, it is likely to occur before this season concludes; however, negotiations remain complex.
“He will be back, and he is working hard in making sure that it happens. But it’s a complex situation that isn’t easy for anyone to understand, and we are waiting for the club to make a statement. The club could soon be issuing a statement, and until then, let’s wait,” a source revealed.
Orlando Pirates’ Champions League success
Jose Riveiro’s side came up trumps in their Champions League quarterfinal first leg as substitute Mohau Nkota rose to the occasion, guiding his shot past MC Alger ‘keeper Abdelatif Ramdane.
Orlando Pirates’ defence withstood waves of pressure as Zakaria Naidji and Akram Bouras remained persistent all game. The Buccaneers return home to host the Algerian giants next week Wednesday but will first divert their attention to the league when they face Polokwane City on Saturday.
The Soweto giants lie fifteen points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns with four games in hand.
