The South African Weather Service has warned that a cold front will affect Gauteng on Friday, leading to a significant decrease in temperatures.
After a relatively cooler-than-usual month of April, South Africans can expect the first major drop in daytime temperatures in the coming days.
According to EWN, the Weather Service has also issued warnings for KwaZulu-Natal, where disruptive rainfall is expected, along with the possibility of light snowfall over mountain tops in the province.
In Gauteng, residents should anticipate thundershowers on Wednesday and Thursday, with temperatures expected to drop into the mid-teens by Friday. SAWS forecaster Tokelo Chiloane stated that the cold front will not bring much change to temperatures in Gauteng.
“Four Gauteng, we don’t have much happening; however, for KwaZulu-Natal, we have that level four and it’s still continuing that level four, up until tomorrow [Wednesday] for disruptive rainfall.
Cold front to hit Gauteng and other provinces
“Because of the system that is passing through, the cold front, we are expecting a drop in temperatures. We are probably going to see our first snowfall in South Africa.”
Disruptive rainfall resulting in flooding of roads and settlements (formal and informal) and major disruption of traffic flow due to major roads being flooded or closed is expected over most parts of KwaZulu Natal except in the north-east, weather service warned.
