Johannes scored 14 points from the tee, while winger Sergeal Petersen bagged two of the team’s nine touchdowns as the Bulls posted a statement victory to underline their status title contenders.
But while the scoreline suggests a brilliant all-round performance by the Bulls, it has to be said that Jake White’s men where not performing at the peak of their powers and instead delivered a mixed bag of good, bad and ugly.
In a fast start, the Bulls opened up a 14-point lead. Zebre clawed their way back into the contest with 10 points, but two more tries saw the Bulls wrap up the four-try bonus-point and take a 28-10 lead into the break.
It was carnage in the second stanza as the Bulls ran in five more tries to dispose of their visitors in ruthless fashion. And while Zebre did manage to breach the Bulls’ line successfully twice in the second half, the hosts — as illustrated by the scoreline — were the dominant force on attack, in defence and at the set pieces.
