City of Cape Town to update pool operational hours for school holidays
The City of Cape Town’s Recreation and Parks Department will be amending community swimming pool operational hours to accommodate the upcoming school holidays.
According to the City, from Monday, 31 March, community swimming pools will open daily until the end of the season. Operating hours are from 10:00 to 18:00 with the last ticket sold at 17:30.
The City encouraged residents and school children to make use of the recreational facilities in Cape Town, but also asked that they adhere to rules.
“It’s important for parents and guardians to always know the whereabouts of children and ensure that they are closely supervised, particularly around water bodies. The City’s lifeguards play an important role in ensuring a safe beach and pool environment and we would like to request beachgoers to please adhere to the rules to help lighten the load,” Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Francine Higham.
Beach lifeguards will also be on duty between 10:00 and 18:00 daily.
City’s Identikidz tags 25 770 children over festive season
In related beach safety news, the City of Cape Town’s Identikidz programme recently tagged over 25 000 children at beaches over the Christmas and Boxing Day holidays in December.
Thanks to this initiative, 169 lost children were successfully reunited with their loved ones over Christmas and Boxing Day.
“The number of children tagged is an indication of how packed the beaches were,” said Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Patricia van der Ross.
“It is easy for young children to lose sight of where their family is located and get lost in the crowds. A number of the lost children in the past two days were not tagged.” she added.
