The City of Cape Town water and sanitation directorate will perform planned maintenance on Thursday, 20 March, resulting in a 48-hour supply interruption.
Residents in affected areas are advised to store enough water in advance as a precautionary measure and prepare accordingly.
CAPE TOWN AREAS AFFECTED BY THE PLANNED WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPTIONS
The City of Cape Town said maintenance work, including pipe and valve installations, repairs, and replacements will result in water supply disruption in the following areas:
The metro municipality said the water supply to Bishop Lavis, Klipkop, Parow Valley, Parow Industria and Ravensmead will be shut off temporarily from 11:00 until 14:00 on Tuesday, 18 March. This will enable the maintenance team to assess the areas that will be impacted by the actual shut-off from 8:00 on Thursday, 20 March, until 8:00 on Saturday, 22 March.
“This shut-off will allow for the safe installation of two 535mm diameter water meters in the newly installed chamber at the Tygerberg Reservoir. Alternate water supply will be rerouted to the affected areas during this period, albeit at lower than usual pressure. In some instances, the water may also be slightly discoloured for a brief period due to the changeover of supply,” the City of Cape Town said.

Similarly, the water supply to Mfuleni, Driftsands and Khayelitsha will be shut off temporarily from 10:00 until 13:00 on Monday, 17 March. This will enable the maintenance team to assess the valves leading off the 1065mm diameter water supply and the areas that will be impacted by the actual shut-off from 08:00 until 20:00 on Thursday, 20 March.
The municipality said impacted areas could unfortunately not be reduced due to a limited number of control valves on this bulk water supply network.
Notably, water tankers will be made available to provide water for domestic use where required.
