Soap legend reveals he’s working as a tutor saying ‘if you’re on TV you’re not rich for the rest of your life’
HOLLYOAKS legend Jeremy Edwards has revealed his new side hustle.
Every Saturday, the actor, 54, is using his decades of industry experience to give students at the UK Film Academy insight into life as a performer.
He admitted to a few first day nerves at the weekend, but it appears it went well and Jeremy took to TikTok again this week to clear up that it’s not a full-time position or a career switch.
The Celebrity Big Brother star also addressed past reports that he’d given up acting to become a builder.
Instead, it turns out he helped a landscape gardener friend on a project 11 years ago, for which he was paid, but it was far from a permanent new job.
He responded to a troll who accused him of “having a nightmare” for trying his hand as a tutor and manual labourer.
Speaking in front of Winchester Cathedral, Jeremy said: “I think if people see you’ve been on TV a) they think you’re rich for the rest of your life and b) if you do anything else, you’ve failed.
“Well, I haven’t failed. I work a lot. I’m writing scripts, I’m working on Ideal World presenting several nights a week, I do tutoring, anyway I don’t need to make my case.”
He added: “I’m still an idiot trying his best to pave his way in the world of acting and entertainment and, do you know what, I have fun doing it.”
His fans were very supportive with one commenting: “Keep being you. Very admirable. Love this post and it resonates x.”
Another said: “You keep doing what you’re doing, whatever works for you and your family. It’s clear you have a strong work ethic which means turning your hand to many things to earn money and feel centred.”
A third wrote: “Thank you for sharing. It shows how varied life an employment is.”
Jeremy is probably best known for playing hunky biker Kurt Benson on Hollyoaks before joining the cast of BBC medical drama Holby City.
In his younger years he was dubbed ‘Britain’s Sexiest Man’ and his popularity carried through into appearances on reality TV.
He finished in fourth place on Celebrity Big Brother in 2005 and has also been a contestant on Dancing on Ice and Celebrity X Factor.
Jeremy’s tutoring role isn’t his first foray into the world of teaching.
The star, whose mum was also a teacher, taught kids drama at Film UK in Hampshire.
He said at the time he found helping young people was more fun and rewarding than acting.
“We are giving kids confidence which takes them forward in life,” said Jeremy. “I’m not just teaching. I’m helping people.
“It’s a safe space for them. You get to pretend to be someone else for a bit and it’s fun.
“They know they aren’t going to get picked on, they know they are going to learn skills, and they are going to have fun on stage and they get to work with someone who was on TV.
“Even if they don’t go into acting they would have built up their confidence.”
Jeremy Edwards' big Hollyoaks return
In 2020 Jeremy returned to Hollyoaks 21 years after his character Kurt Benson was seemingly killed in a jet-ski accident.
The actor, who was once engaged to Rachel Stevens, was in the first-ever episode of the soap alongside best friend Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard).
Jeremy did briefly return to the Chester show in 2013 as a hallucination protecting Tony’s son during an episode of Hollyoaks Later.
However, his latest stint saw the character appear in the flesh in similar fashion to Nico Blake (Persephone Swales-Dawson) in 2018, Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe) in 2015 and Warren Fox (Jamie Lomas) in 2011.
Though Jeremy previously said the soap was “everything” to him, he was unimpressed with how bosses used Kurt upon his return, turning him into a conman.
On a 2021 episode of podcast Soap From The Box, he said: “It became a bit of a s**t show.
“I was supposed to be back for much longer, then Covid struck. It would have been better to leave it alone because it wasn’t one thing or the other, they didn’t know where they were going with it.
“I was prepared to go for six months to a year but doing three months then not knowing my future?
“The fact is, Kurt’s alive, he can come back and they’ve said they want me back in future.
“But I’ve said, ‘Nah’.”

FACT TO FILE (3.20) should have too many gears for this year’s French flavour in the Ryanair Chase.
Protektorat defends his title for Dan Skelton after bolting up in the Fleur de Lys Chase, but he’ll face competition for the lead with bold-jumping French rival Il Est Francais.
Having made most of the running in the King George, Il Est Francais drops back in distance here, but so too does Fact To File who is 3 lb above him in the Timeform ratings.
Fact To File should appreciate the shorter trip after good placed efforts behind Gold Cup hero Galopin des Champs at Leopardstown and can come out on top.
Another bidding for a repeat win on this card is TEAHUPOO (4.00) in the Stayers’ Hurdle.
Previous winners have a good record in the race, with Flooring Porter in 2022 becoming the most recent of four hurdlers this century to win the Stayers’ crown twice.
A clear 5lb topper in the Timeform ratings, Teahupoo goes well fresh and looks the one to beat again after following the same route as last year.
While he couldn’t win a third successive Hatton’s Grace Hurdle this time, there was no disgrace in finishing runner-up to the speedier Lossiemouth who had a 7lb mares’ allowance.
Home By The Lee was third last year and looks best of the rest after winning a Grade 1 at Leopardstown.

Finding winners among the huge fields elsewhere on the card won’t be easy but novice JAGWAR (4.40), owned by JP McManus, looks very interesting in the Plate Handicap.
The unexposed six-year-old tops the Timeform ratings by 1lb and also has a ‘p’, showing that he’s open to further improvement in a field of exposed rivals.

I get the same text from Sir Alex Ferguson every time I get sacked from a job, admits Wayne Rooney
MANCHESTER UNITED legend Wayne Rooney revealed he still keeps in touch with iconic manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
However, there is a catch as they only contact each other after Rooney, 39, gets sacked from the dugout.
The legendary striker and Ferguson, 83, spent nine years together at Old Trafford where they won five Premier League titles and the 2008 Champions League.
The pair had a few heated exchanges during their spell at United but ultimately patched things up and still talk.
The ex-England international is following in Fergie’s footsteps but his spells as Derby, DC United, Birmingham and Plymouth Argyle boss met a heartbreaking end.
And that was when Ferguson reached out with a text that Rooney still remembers.
The ex-Everton star joined Gary Neville, Ian Wright, Roy Keane and Jill Scott on The Overlap and answered fan questions.
Neville read out one of them for the panel, which read: “Do you ever hear from your old managers?”
Wright confirmed that he still keeps in touch with his former gaffers.
And that was when Rooney revealed: “Every time I get sacked Fergie gives me a text.”
The former centre-forward’s fellow panelists immediately burst into laughter.
Scott asked: What does it [ the text] say?”
However, the United great opted against sharing any details of the exchange.
Instead, Rooney simply said: “He gives me a text every time I get sacked”

A YOUNG man who spent days decorating his new council house showed off the transformation.
Connor, from the UK, took to social media to show off the two rooms he had finally finished decorating in his new home, but not everyone was a fan.
He said: “After 11 long days of decorating my new council house, I can actually say that two rooms are finally complete.”
Connor then took viewers to look inside his new front room and people were left stunned by his design choices.
The room had a strict colour scheme of red, black, and white.
The off-white sofa was bought on Facebook Marketplace and jazzed up with a white blanket with red flowers and an array of cushions in his chosen colour scheme.
“The couch I got off Facebook Marketplace, it’ll do for now,” he said.
“Eventually, I do want like a sofa club one I think, and maybe a two seater chair.”
To the right of the sofa was a white electric fireplace and a feature wall with red floral wallpaper.
“I do need to put a big mirror up above the fireplace there, but I’m just waiting for the wallpaper just to dry a little bit cause I only put it up yesterday,” he explained.
He used three sets of curtains for the windows in black, white, and red, and a huge floral-printed rug sat in the middle of the floor.
On the left side of the room, Connor had a collection of china figurines on display as well as a large statue of two fairy children.
The clip had gone viral on his TikTok account @connorsouthern99 with over 575k views and 17k likes.
People were quick to share their thoughts in the comments with many saying it reminded them of their gran’s house.
One person wrote: “Isn’t this page 256 of the 2001 Argos catalog??”
Another commented: “I thought this was the ‘before.'”
Rules on transforming your council house
According to Gov, the kind of improvements you can make to your council property depends on the type of tenancy you have.
Introductory tenants are usually limited to minor improvements like redecorating inside.
If you’re a secure tenant, you have the right to carry out improvements to your property. These include:
- installing a new bathroom or kitchen
- building an extension
- putting up a garden shed or greenhouse
- installing a new gas fire or fireplace
- cavity wall insulation
- redecorating the outside of a house
- fitting an aerial or satellite dish
You might need your council’s written permission for work you do. Contact your council if you’re not sure.

Aston Villa hero Marco Asensio WILL face parent club PSG in Champions League quarter-final thanks to little-known rule
ASTON VILLA star Marco Asensio will be able to play against his parent club PSG in the Champions League quarter-final.
The 29-year-old joined Villa in January on a six-month loan from the French giants.
Asensio has made a stunning start to life in Birmingham, scoring two last night to seal last-16 victory over Club Brugge.
The strikes took his goal tally to seven in eight games.
Villa face PSG in the next round and the Spanish midfielder is eligible to play.
Players are banned from facing their parent side in the Premier League but this rule does not apply in the Champions League.
Uefa regulations state teams do not have “any influence whatsoever over the players that another club may (or may not) field in a match”.
Villa had the rule go against them earlier this season when on loan man Samuel Iling-Junior came on at Villa Park for Bologna in the league phase.
Looking ahead to the quarter-final, it is not just Asensio who will be looking to haunt his old employers on April 9 and 15 as boss Unai Emery used to manage the Parisians from 2016 to 2018.
But fans reckon it is written in the stars for the ex-Real Madrid star to score the winner, with one saying: “That would be absolutely beautiful.”

Premier League club to DOUBLE stadium’s capacity with huge redevelopment plan as owner admits ‘we need to improve it’
BOURNEMOUTH are set to more than double their stadium capacity.
The Cherries’ Vitality Stadium home holds just 11,307 fans – making it by far the smallest ground in the Premier League.
Club owner Bill Foley has previously discussed the possibility of Bournemouth building a new stadium.
But during a recent appearance on talkSPORT, the American revealed that the Cherries are now aiming to expand their current Dean Court site.
After claiming that Bournemouth will be moving to their new training ground in April, the 80-year-old said: “We are well underway to having a solution for our stadium with several stages in mind.
“The first stage would be to grow to about 16,000 seats, the next stage would be about 20,000, and the third stage would be to about 24,000 seats.
“Much more hospitality and a much more welcoming environment, in terms of when people arrive and how they get into the stands and so on.”
The Vitality Stadium is privately owned by property company Structadene.
Foley wants to buy Bournemouth’s stadium outright before beginning redevelopment work.
He added: “We are hopefully going to be acquiring the Vitality.

“We have a plan in place. It is going to be a staged effort, and we need to have the council’s approval.
“We’ll start with the south stand, and we’ll really expand that and make that a permanent stand with some hospitality.
“At the same time we’re going to be redoing the main stand in terms of hospitality and ingress and egress, high speed elevators and so on so people aren’t having to walk up three flights to go to have lunch and then walk down two flights to go to their seats, and then walk two flights up again.
“The stadium is just antiquated and we need to improve it.”
On the work that has gone on behind the scenes, Foley continued: “We’ve been working hard on it. Our general contractor was over in Las Vegas last Monday and we spent four or five hours together, going through options and looking at the stages and how we move forward.
“Now we’re working with the council to see if we can get fairly quick approval for what we want to do.
“We’ve already raised the money, so the sooner we get approvals and we get our design plan in place, we’ve already retained our architects and retained our builder and so on, we’ll be ready to go.
“People will be surprised with how quickly we go with this situation.”
Foley also revealed that Bournemouth are looking to extend boss Andoni Iraola‘s contract, with the Spaniard’s current deal set to expire at the end of next season.
According to talkSPORT, Iraola would be Tottenham’s top candidate to replace Ange Postecoglou, should the under-fire Aussie be sacked.
