Meghan Markle needs to forget about Princess Kate & compete against Hollywood celebs for As Ever to be a success

MEGHAN Markle should focus on “competing” against Hollywood celebs instead of with Princess Kate, according to a royal expert.

While there have been claims of the Sussexes having a “rivalry” with the Prince and Princess of Wales, Newsweek’s royal editor Jack Royston claimed they need to focus on A-listers right on their doorstep.

This comes as Meghan announced the launch of her new lifestyle brand As Ever on Instagram, ahead of her Netflix cooking show, With Love, Meghan, debuting next month on March 4.

Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show, Jack shared: “She’s fighting to get back into a space that she had largely given up.”

He added: “She is now fighting to get into a very competitive space where all the influencers live.

“All the influencers are fighting for an audience.

“And actually she would be well advised to forget any competition with Kate and William, because the people she’s going to be competing with are the other celebrities who are also trying to sell their products too.

“So that’s going to be where the real competition lies for Meghan.”

In Meghan’s post, she uploaded a video explaining she will still be selling jams, saying “my jam is my jam”, and other products.

She said: “This new chapter is an extension of what has always been my love language, beautifully weaving together everything I cherish — food, gardening, entertaining, thoughtful living, and finding joy in the everyday.”

This follows the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow’s lifestyle brand Goop, and stars such as Kourtney Kardashian’s wellness company Poosh.

Meghan has also been compared to the likes of Martha Stewart by defining herself in the lifestyle space.

The As Ever selfie-style clip was shared on her @meghan Instagram page, which she created after a hiatus from social media for a few years.

Jack pointed out: “It’s quite interesting that Instagram is her social media channel because most of her fans are on Twitter

“That is the real core of where the Sussex squad operates.

“Meghan hasn’t chosen to make Twitter her space—she’s chosen Instagram, which shows a slight bit of disconnect between her and her fan base.

“Instagram is great for celebrities, and celebrities love it. It gives them a slightly more positive space in which they can just—you know, their post is king.

“You post the picture, and anybody who comments underneath it is subordinate to your original post.

“Whereas on Twitter, no one post has priority over another. Your entry into the discussion can be any post in a thread.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex now live in the A-list enclave of Montecito, California, after stepping down as senior royals in 2020.

The area is home to the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Orlando Bloom and Jennifer Aniston.

Meanwhile, The Sun revealed the mayor of a small Majorcan town has accused Meg of “plagiarism” over similarities between her logo and their 14th century coat of arms.

Fans were quick to spot the As Ever design was astonishingly similar to the Coat of Arms of Porreres in Majorca.

An expert blasted the move as “another headache” for Meghan’s team, and potentially “copyright issues”.

The Sun understands that the logo for ‘As ever’ was drawn up after a “comprehensive global searches of registered trademarks”.

The logo incorporates a palm tree as a nod to the couple’s home in Montecito, while the two hummingbirds are said to be a favourite of Prince Harry’s.

The Duke claimed he saw a hummingbird after the death of Queen Elizabeth.

The shape enclosing the birds and tree was designed to “create a unique and personal emblem”.

New start-up airline launching flights this year reveals plans for ‘100-destination network’ which includes the UK

START up airline Riyadh Air has revealed the latest plans to have an ‘100-destination’ global network of flight routes around the world.

The new airline has taken the next step in launching flights after being granted an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) which allows them to have commercial operations.

The airline’s CEO Tony Douglas revealed the latest plan for the airline launch[/caption]

Planning to start flights by the end of this year – after being forced to delay the original start date of early 2025 – the airline’s CEO Tony Douglas said the airline launch was “very real”.

A test flight has already taken place from Riyadh to Istanbul last month, with official routes to be announced later this year.

The future plans include flights to more than 100 destinations by 2030, adding two new destinations a month.

This lines up with the Saudi Arabia Vision 2030 which wants to attract 150million visitors a year.

And the UK is one of them, with flights likely to launch from London Heathrow to Riyadh.

Mr Douglas – who was previously CEO of Etihad Airways – said: “We’re not going public with the full list until we’ve got all the slots.

“But Western Europe is essential. We’re desperately keen to get access to Heathrow.”

First announced in 2023, the Mr Douglas added to Executive Traveller last year: “We’ll launch with three airplanes flying from Riyadh to let’s say ‘European capital A’ and back.

“Then the airplane will turn around and do a shorter leg on thick routes within the region – to Jeddah, for example.”

“It will then come back to Riyadh, turn around and then do ‘European city B’, and so on.”

An order for 39 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners has been confirmed, with options for another 33.

The airline has already revealed the plans for it’s onboard classes, including sliding doors in business class.

And the premium economy will be “more like business” although won’t have lie flat seats.

Economy flights will have 13.3″ screens and USB-C charging ports.

However, don’t expect booze onboard – it is unlikely to be served due to the strict alcohol laws in Saudi Arabia (it has been banned since 1952).

But the airline is wanting to become a “digital-first” airline and said they could even see boarding passes scrapped in favour of biometric tech.

Mr Douglas added: “What we’ve designed is something that’s got more in common with Uber and Amazon.”

Riyadh Air launch timeline

March 2023 – Riyadh Air is announced and CEO named

June 2023 – Plans for 29 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner confirmed

June 2023 – Passenger Air Transport License granted

July 2024 – Memorandum of Understanding signed with Delta

October 2024 – Order of 60 Airbus A321neo confirmed

January 2025 – First test flight conducted and airline awarded AOC

Late 2025 – Airline launches test flight, with official launch later this year

The airline will be based at King Salman International Airport which is set to become the world’s biggest.

Opening in 2030, the airport will have six runways and an 120million passenger capacity.

Cognizant Classic betting tips

The Cognizant really is wide open – how many times can you get at least 20-1 about the player you want to back?

That is the best price available for the man who heads the market with most bookmakers, former Open champion Shane Lowry.

That is based on his second place finish to Rory McIlroy at Pebble Beach four weeks ago, and a run of three consecutive top fives in this tournament.

That includes another runner-up finish, behind Ryder Cup team-mate Sepp Straka in 2022 – and at 25-1, I reckon the Austrian ace offers better value.

Straka already has a win to his credit this season with his impressive victory at the American Express tournament last month, and he followed up with a share of seventh in that hotly-contested shoot-out at Pebble.

Finishing in the top 15 at the Phoenix Open was another good effort. So I am prepared to overlook Straka’s missed cut at the Genesis last time out, especially on a course where he knows how to get the job done.

Austin Eckroat is the defending champion, and he can be backed at a generous-looking 55-1.

I am a fan of the Young Oklahoma golfer – but the only player to win back-to-back at PGA National is a certain Jack Nicklaus, and that was way back in 1977-78.

Nicklaus had the advantage of having designed the course, which features the famous Bear Trap, and it would be a big surprise if Eckroat can match his achievement here.

Daniel Berger has also bagged three top five finishes here, and he looked the likely winner three years ago before giving up the 54 hole lead.

He has struggled with injuries over the past few years. But he looked to be almost back to his best when he finished runner-up in Phoenix and followed up with a share of 12th at the Genesis – which was much more hotly-contested than this event.

Min Woo Lee is another eye-catcher at 35-1 after finishing joint second behind Eckroat last year, but you have to take on board that the Aussie is not the most consistent performer.

Andrew Novak continues to suggest he will justify regular support from this column soon. He has two podium finishes in his last eight starts, and a top ten here a year ago is added cause for optimism.

Among the outsiders, Joel Dahmen has been quietly running into form with a couple of top tens in his last three starts, and Adam Schenk has also produced slime decent efforts. They are both on  offer at 125-1.

***************************************************************

The South African Open has been won by home golfers for the last six years, and it is hard to see that sequence ending when the event moves to Durban Country Club this week.

Defending champion Dean Burmester is a clear favourite at 10-1, but that looks a bit skinny, especially with the change of venue.

The Springbok golfer who jumps out at me is Jayden Schaper, at 30-1. He followed his fifth place at the Qatar Masters by finishing fourth in Kenya last week.

Schaper shared the 54 hole lead at last year’s South Africa Open, before dropping to fifth with a poor final round. He will be extra motivated to make amends.

If the home dominance is to end, the player who could spring a surprise is progressive Spanish star Alejandro del Rey.

He has missed a couple of cuts since winning at Ras Al Khaimah, but he should have rediscovered his focus by now. He showed a liking for South Africa when sharing fifth with Schaper last year, and can be backed at 70-1.

Lucy Letby was a ‘scapegoat’ for our hospital’s failings – we were SURE she’d be cleared, killer nurse’s ex boss slams

LUCY Letby’s former boss thought that she was a “scapegoat” for the hospital’s failings and would be cleared without charge, a former chief executive has claimed.

Letby, 35, is serving 15 whole life orders after she was found guilty of murdering seven babies and trying to kill seven others at the Chester hospital.

MEN Media
Susan Gilby described conversations with her predecessor to the Thirlwall inquiry[/caption]

She lost two attempts to challenge her convictions at the Court of Appeal last year.

This is despite medical experts claimed they found “no evidence” of murder and instead blamed the babies’ deaths on hospital errors, earlier this month.

Now, Tony Chambers was said to have had concerns about Letby’s initial detention by cops in July 2018, according to Dr Susan Gilby.

Dr Gilby joined the Countess of Chester as the new deputy chief executive and medical director weeks after Letby’s arrest.

And she revealed that she had a “quite bizarre” discussion with Mr Chambers at that time, while giving evidence to the Thirlwall Inquiry into the events surrounding Letby’s crimes.

Dr Gilby said she expected the hospital’s executive team would be “absolutely reeling” that a staff member had been arrested on suspicion of committing multiple murders and attempted murders “under their watch”.

She said: “What I found, and what Tony wanted to discuss with me, was his concern that actually he still believed, despite the arrest, that no deliberate harm had been caused.

“He kept repeating that there was no single cause found, and I said to him ‘well it’s not for you to find the cause, you have unexpected and unexplained collapses and deaths of patients and even one of those is a cause of concern’.

“And he just was very focused on the worry that the paediatricians may have caused this nurse harm, and his worry was a wrongful conviction.

“But he was still confident, even though she had been arrested, there would be no progress and there wouldn’t ultimately be a charge.”

Letby was moved out of the neonatal unit to non-clinical duties in June 2016, shortly after consultant paediatricians told bosses they feared she may be deliberately harming babies.

Hospital executives, including Mr Chambers and then medical director Ian Harvey, opted to commission several independent probes into the increased mortality.

And police were not called in to investigate until May 2017.

Dr Gilby said she sensed that both men believed the paediatricians were wrong about their concerns, and that no evidence of deliberate harm had been found in their reviews.

“On a number of occasions it was said to me, [the paediatricians] were just looking for somebody to blame,” she said.

“They just felt the paediatricians were unable to accept they weren’t the best and so when outcomes were poor they were looking for somebody to blame.

“I was being given the impression that I had some ‘problem doctors’ that needed dealing with.”

Dr Gilby later replaced Mr Chambers, who stepped down in September 2018.

Dr Gilby also warned that the medical profession would see killers like Letby again if lessons were not taken into the profession and training.

She said: “It isn’t unthinkable, [serial killers have] happened time and time again.

“But the [Clothier] report, for example, published after the crimes of Beverley Allitt, was not something considered or mentioned in terms of the training I’ve done … I think that’s something that needs to change.”

KILLER NURSE

It comes after Lucy’s former boss said the nurse deserves “an Oscar” if she is lying over the deaths of babies she was found guilty of murdering.

Karen Rees, 62, was formerly head of nursing at the Countess of Chester Hospital, where seven babies died under Letby’s care.

She had first met Letby in summer 2016 when had to tell the nurse she was being removed from the neonatal ward following concerns over her “clinical practice”.

Rees claims that weekly management-advised wellbeing meetings she had with Letby following this revealed how “very distressed” the nurse was.

She added that Letby was always crying whenever the two would meet and claimed the nurse told her she would not be driven out from the “job that I love”, proclaiming she had “done nothing wrong”.

Letby was found guilty of attacking babies in her care often just moments after parents or other nurses left their sides.

She was found guilty of fatally injecting seven babies with air, guilty of trying to kill two others by lacing feed bags with insulin, and guilty of the attempted murder of another by thrusting a tube down the baby’s throat.

Dozens of medical documents belonging to her victims were found hoarded in her home, and Facebook searches on the babies’ parents were also discovered.

The charges Letby has been convicted of in full

Child A, allegation of murder. The Crown said Letby injected air intravenously into the bloodstream of the baby boy. COUNT 1 GUILTY.

Child B, allegation of attempted murder. The Crown said Letby attempted to murder the baby girl, the twin sister of Child A, by injecting air into her bloodstream. COUNT 2 GUILTY.

Five-week warning for parents to claim code for new free childcare help – are you eligible?

PARENTS should be aware of fast-approaching deadline to apply for free child care support.

The government has confirmed that you need to apply for a childcare code by March 31 for the free hours to kick in by the time the new term starts.

Baby and mum
Parents need to apply for a code to get access to free childcare hours
Alamy

That means if your term starts in April you need to apply for a code by March 31, giving parents just weeks to apply.

The childcare code gives you access to 15 free hours of government funded early education, for children aged nine months up to two years old.

This can be combined with the universal 15 hours to make 30 hours of free childcare when your child turns 3 or 4.

Parents can now apply for the codes to help reduce the costs of looking after their little ones.

You can apply online via the Gov.uk website and once you do you will receive a code which you can give to your childcare provider to get money off.

You may find out if you’re eligible straight away, but it can take up to seven days.

How much support you receive depends on your child’s age and whether you are working and your income or your partner’s income if you have one.

It is also worth noting that not every nursery offers the free government support.

So it may be worth checking with your local providers to see what they offer ahead of time.

Some providers may charge for extra services, such as providing lunch and nappies, or optional extras such as trips, in addition to the government funded childcare.

If you are a parent who is returning to work you must also apply for a code.

If you foster your child, you can claim free childcare if you’re working as long as you are in paid work outside of your fostering role.

It’s important to remember that codes need to be renewed every three months.

To do this, you’ll need to remember to login to your childcare account to check when your reconfirmation dates are, so that you can renew your code on time.

If you don’t renew it on time, you will need to reapply.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR THE SUPPORT?

To qualify, you’ll need to earn at least the equivalent of the national minimum wage for 16 hours a week.

Both parents will need to earn at least £166 per week each, with a taxable income of no more than £100,000.

Your two-year-old can also get free childcare if you live in England and get any of the following benefits:

  • Income support
  • Income-based jobseeker’s allowance (JSA)
  • Income-related employment and support allowance (ESA)
  • Universal Credit and your household income is £15,400 a year or less after tax, not including benefit payments
  • The guaranteed element of pension credit
  • Child tax credit, working tax credit (or both), and your household income is £16,190 a year or less before tax

To apply for the support you need the following:

  • your national insurance number (or unique taxpayer reference if you are self-employed)
  • the date you started or are due to start work
  • details of any government support or benefits you receive
  • the UK birth certificate reference number (if you have one) for your child.

Once your application has been approved, you’ll get a code to give to your childcare provider.

WHAT OTHER SUPPORT IS AVAILABLE TO FAMILIES?

Parents on Universal Credit and in a paid job can have up to 85% of their childcare costs covered, up to £1,014.63 a month for one child and £1,739.37 a month for two or more children.

It doesn’t matter how many hours you work.

If you live with a partner, you both need to work to qualify.

You usually have to pay for the childcare and claim back the costs, but if you go back to work or increase your hours you can request that the money be paid upfront.

You can get child benefit if you’re responsible for a child aged under 16, or if they are under 20 and in approved education or training.

Child benefit is currently worth £25.60 a week for the eldest child or only child. For each subsequent child, parents get £16.95 a week.

The cash is paid every four weeks and there’s no limit to how many children you can apply for.

Bear in mind though, that those who earn more than £60,000 a year have to start paying back some of their child benefit through the High Income Child Benefit Charge (HICBC).

If you or your partner earns £80,000 or more, you have to pay all your entitlement back.

You have to pay the HICBC to HMRC through self-assessment.

How to claim Child Benefit

Child benefit is worth up to £1,331 a year for your first or only child and up to £881 a year for additional children.

This works out at £102.40 every four weeks or £25.60 a week for your first child and £67.80 every 4 weeks or £16.95 a week for their siblings.

There is no limit on the number of children that can be claimed for.

Applying is straightforward and can be done in minutes at gov.uk or through the HMRC app.

Parents with a newborn baby should make a claim online as soon as possible and could then receive their first payment in as little as three days.

You can also backdate claims for up to three months.

Parents can make a claim and then choose to opt out of receiving Child Benefit payments can still receive National Insurance credits if one parent is not working.

National Insurance credits build up your entitlement to the state pension.

He said: “Well I’ve been training Paris for about a month now, how are you getting on?”

She flexed as she replied: “World champion bodyweight lifter, look at the muscles.”

Fury then continued: “She’s doing very well, pushing herself on the daily and overall she’s doing really well.”

Comparing himself to his strength and conditioning coach, he added: “I feel like the new Kristian Blacklock personal trainer. I’m going to be personal training all the MILFs.”

At this point Paris looked at Tyson in mock anger, replying: “Are ya?”

Fury then burst out laughing at his gag.

Also smiling, Paris then flexed again, adding: “Look at the muscles.”

Fury concluded his video by saying: “Anyway she’s doing well and I’m going to keep you updated on my personal training journey.”

Despite Fury having announced his retirement, hopes have remained that he could still return to the ring.

Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh told The Stomping Ground: “I want Tyson [next for Joshua].

“I spoke with him, but I don’t talk about boxing.

“I just check about his health and his family. “I think maybe he’ll return. Yes ,[I think he will return], I hope so.”

As the arrivals began speculating on who was going to turn up next, Kieran began to panic and said: “I didn’t know Erica was going to be here and I haven’t told Kristina yet.”

She picked up on his uncomfortable body language after an awkward introduction and said: “He’s acting really awkward now, but he wasn’t acting awkward at my house.”

Later Erica put Kieran on the spot and asked if he had anything he’d like to tell Kristina.

Gutted Kristina said to camera: “I feel like a bit of a nob, Erica’s been kissing my ex-husband.”

At the table, she held it together well, telling him: “Kieran, whose tongue you have in your mouth is none of my business. Erica, I hope you haven’t got a cold sore now.”

Kieran and Kristina tied the knot for the latest series of MAFS UK and – despite a promising start to their relationship – things ended in tears as the couple struggled with intimacy.

Kieran later made the heartbreaking confession that “the spark had gone” and they split during a commitment ceremony.

I had 10 panic attacks a day, says student – as shocking stats on mental health at university revealed

A UNIVERSITY student says her first year “work overload” triggered 10 panic attacks a day.

Kali Kuszyk-Whittall, 20, initially found her first term at university “exciting,” balancing studying with making new friends and fitting into a new home.

She developed coping strategies to stop the attacks in their tracks – like running cold water over her wrists, going for walks and watching TV[/caption]

But as the second term came around, she says she underestimated how many hours she’d have to dedicate to her degree.

Studying for her modules at Birmingham City University and trying to hold down a part-time job led to Kali suffering 10 panic attacks a day.

She sought help from her GP and university therapist, each of whom gave her 10 sessions of counselling.

And Kali also developed coping strategies to stop the attacks in their tracks – like running cold water over her wrists, going for walks and watching TV.

Now, nearly a year later, she’s in a “better” place while in her second year of studies – and manages to leave the house for lectures lasting “a few hours a day.”

Kali said: “There was an initial excitement with starting uni.

“At the very beginning, it was very exciting and new – I found myself living with friends I already knew from school, which was great.

“But as the term went on, I struggled to feel like I was keeping on top of all my work – there was a pressure to feel like I knew everything in all my modules, when I didn’t.”

Kali’s story comes after a recent poll found one in 10 university students feel “constantly anxious”, with exam stress, money worries and balancing their studies with their social life among the biggest concerns.

The poll of 1,000 current and past university students found 43 per cent were often or always worried during their studies.

Kali says she had previously suffered from depression – but the panic attacks didn’t begin until six months after she started uni.

Once they were triggered, she struggled to get a grip on them – and would have to stay at home to deal with the “constant” feelings of panic.

All-in-all, Kali took four months off, while she received help.

“It was a big change from being at home to then obviously being in a whole new environment,” she said.

Many think students have it easy and say it is the best time of your life. But it can be a very stressful and worrying time for those who may be feeling anxious about how to deal with their course, manage finances or simply be away from home.

Dr Naveen Purimedical director for Bupa

“I didn’t feel like I was really understanding the work at first, as well as having to get a new place.

“There was a lot of self-doubt, really.”

Kali added: “There were lots of coping mechanisms I randomly found out for myself.

“Cold water and ice on my wrists would stop a panic attack while it was still in the beginning stages.

“I’d also use things to distract me, like listening to music, watching new shows on TV and reading new books.”

Kali completed six sessions of CBT between June and August 2024 – and it was during this time that she returned to her studies.

She now feels like she’s “getting back to being okay,” and is surviving through her course despite her struggles.

“It’s definitely not perfect, but it’s manageable, and I’m getting back to being okay,” Kali said.

One in five depressed at uni

Kali is not alone, with the recent poll finding that a fear of failure or dropping out, fitting in with their peers and coping with the pressure of what they are going to do after they graduate were among student’s concerns.

More than half (55 per cent) had moments where they questioned whether they wanted to complete their course.

First and third year students were most anxious – both 27 per cent, with the second term (35 per cent) deemed the most difficult, as the reality of university life set in.

Dr Naveen Puri, medical director for Bupa, which commissioned the research to launch its health subscription service, which gives students access to GPs and mental health support, said: “Joining university comes with a lot of worries and fears.

“But often, it’s not until a little later on that these start to show, once the fun and excitement of term one has worn off and the hard work of term two begins.

“Many think students have it easy and say it is the best time of your life.

“But it can be a very stressful and worrying time for those who may be feeling anxious about how to deal with their course, manage finances or simply be away from home.”

The study also found 23 per cent often or always felt depressed while at university.

And half of those polled admitted the realisation of how hard their university degree was going to be affected their mental health.

As a result of feeling stressed or worried, 39 per cent ate more junk food while 34 per cent skipped lectures.

Others avoided socialising (33 per cent), called home more often (28 per cent) and missed deadlines (25 per cent).

But 30 per cent didn’t know who to turn to for help.

Some 38 per cent claimed their physical health impacted their ability to participate in university life, while 39 per cent said the same of their mental health.

The research, commissioned via OnePoll, also revealed the biggest barriers to accessing healthcare while at university, including worries they were overreacting (35 per cent), a lack of time (34 per cent) and fears they won’t be taken seriously (32 per cent).

Dr Naveen Puri, from Bupa, added: “For many students, taking the step to speak to a medical professional over a physical or mental health issue can be daunting, especially for those who may be used to their parents taking care of this for them.

“But it’s important to ensure students have the healthcare support they need as they navigate their studies.”

Fuming farmers boo and heckle minister as Labour faces the music over inheritance tax raid at union conference

FURIOUS farmers booed and heckled the Environment Secretary as he faced the music on Labour’s inheritance tax raid.

Steve Reed took a battering from the crowd at the National Farmers’ Union conference as he took questions on the family farm tax.

The controversial policy, set to kick in from April 2026, has sparked outrage among the farming community, who fear it will force family-run farms out of business.

Mr Reed was met with muted applause and a hostile audience as he tried to sweeten the blow with a raft of policy pledges, including a five-year extension to seasonal worker visas and a £30m boost to higher-level stewardship schemes.

But his words did little to calm the fury in the room – with protesters holding up banners condemning the tax raid and NFU President Tom Bradshaw branding the move “cruel” and “morally wrong.”

In his key note speech, Mr Bradshaw also said older farmers “are now facing that very real dilemma that unless they die before April 2026, their families will face a family farm tax they simply cannot afford to pay.”

He added: “What a cruel position to put elderly people in by no way of warning, by way of a broken promise.

“Government, you must correct this urgently.”

Taking the stage afterwards, Mr Reed admitted he understood “the strength of feeling in the room” but refused to back down.

He also apologised, saying: “I’m sorry, it’s a decision that we have had to take.”

But later defended the move, claiming the Government had to deal with a financial “black hole” inherited from the Tories.

The tax hike has sparked furious protests in Westminster, with convoys of tractors descending on London in recent weeks.

During the Q&A session that followed his speech, Mr Reed was heckled and repeatedly challenged by farmers.

One bluntly asked if the best tax planning now was to die before the changes come in.

Mr Reed insisted Labour was committed to making farming more profitable and announced plans for a 25-year roadmap and food strategy.

But his responses were repeatedly drowned out by jeers and heckles.

What is a Nepo Baby?

A ‘nepo baby’ is a colloquial term used to describe individuals who have gained opportunities or success in their careers primarily due to familial connections or the influence of their well-known or wealthy parents, rather than solely through their own talent, skills, or efforts.

The term ‘nepo’ is short for ‘nepotism’, which refers to favouritism granted to relatives or close friends, often in a professional context.

Key Characteristics:

  • Inherited advantage: Nepo babies often benefit from their family’s established reputation, wealth, or industry connections.
  • Access to networks: They typically have easier access to influential networks and resources within their chosen field.
  • Public perception: The term can carry a negative connotation, implying that their success is not entirely merit-based.

Industries Affected:

  • Entertainment: Many actors, musicians, and other performers are often labeled as nepo babies if they have famous parents.
  • Business: Individuals who inherit or are given significant roles in family-owned businesses.
  • Politics: Politicians who follow in the footsteps of their parents or other relatives.

Examples:

  • Children of famous actors who become actors themselves.
  • Heirs to business empires who assume executive roles.
  • Offspring of political figures who enter public office.

The concept of nepo babies is often debated, with some arguing that it undermines the notion of meritocracy.

Meanwhile, others believe that it is natural for families to support and help each other succeed.

Melinda then moved on with Dr. Raj Joshi, whom she got engaged to after meeting on the Channel 4 show, Celebrity SAS, while filming the show in Vietnam.

But sadly, the couple split just six months after the pair got engaged in New Zealand.

At the time of the news of Melinda and Raj’s split breaking, The Sun revealed that a source had shared details on their break up.

A source told us that the pair “fell fast” and had an “amazing” year travelling around the world together but ultimately decided to part ways.

“Melinda is gutted because she thought he was the one after they bonded over such an amazing experience,” the source added.

They concluded: “The wedding is off. They are no longer in touch.”

Explaining how they fell in love, Melinda previously told The Sun: “So when I came out, I was crying, sweat, blood tears, and wee, I am not kidding you, in this old sports bra and cycling shorts covered in bruises and yeah, foot rot.

“The producer was like, ‘Do you want to see the doctor? You may as well. Just pop in and just have a quick chat.’

“We just carried on chatting after that and that was it!

“So the show changed my life in more ways than one, and I’m truly thankful for that.”
