Utilita Arena evacuated after fire breaks out as UK Athletics Indoor Championships is delayed
THE start of the UK Athletics Indoor Championship has been delayed after the Utilita Arena was evacuated due to a fire.
Fire service crews were called out to the venue in Birmingham.

It is believed the cause of the fire was a cooker catching alight in a nearby flat.
The start of the event was delayed by one hour which meant things did not get underway until 12:25pm.
UK Athletics shared an update on X which read: “The start of the 2025 Microplus UK Athletics Indoor Championships has been delayed by one hour, following an incident that required the evacuation of the Utilita Arena in Birmingham this morning, Saturday 22 February.
“A one hour delay to the timetable has been agreed in order to athletes, officials and spectators adequate time to prepare for the day’s events.
“Saturday’s timetable of events is now expected start at 12:25.
“Spectators will experience a delay to the opening of the arena, and should keep across UK Athletics channels for further information.
“There is currently no expected delay to Sunday’s timetable.
“Further information will be released on UK Athletics channels in due course.”
Olympic bronze medallist and commentator Katharine Merry revealed she was delayed entering the venue as a result of the nearby fire.
She tweeted: “Not made it into the Utilita Arena yet. It’s been fully evacuated due to a fire. Fire brigade here and smoke coming from the top floor.”
Ally McBeal star has barely aged a day 23 years after hit show ended – ahead of new role in BBC drama Dope Girls
AN Ally McBeal star has barely aged a day 23 years after the hit show ended – ahead of a new role in BBC drama Dope Girls.
Dope Girls follows female gangs as they run the illicit drugs trade and London‘s nightclubs after the World War I.

One of the lead characters is called Kate Galloway, who moves to London after suffering a tragedy, but ends up with blood on her hands after a fateful night in the capital.
Kate is played by actress Julianne Nicholson, and she may look familiar to some TV viewers.
Julianne, 53, played Jenny Shaw in hit drama Ally McBeal from 2001 to 2002 across series five.
But despite the show ending 23 years ago, Julianne looks virtually the same with her short dark hair and youthful looks.
Speaking about her role in the lavish new BBC drama – that cost £20m to make – she said: “Kate definitely is enticed by the club world once she pokes her nose into it.
“I think it starts off with the intention of providing for her daughters, but I think it very quickly turns into something she enjoys.
“The power that comes with that and the life and the colour that comes with mixing with these people in this world.”
The actress also recalled her favourite scene to film for the series, saying: “The biggest scenes were the scenes that we filmed in Trafalgar Square in the fountain, because I had never worked on a volume stage before. It’s like being on a big iMax screen.
“And you’re seeing this whole world playing out, but depending on where you’re filming and where you are in Trafalgar Square, those images change.
“To be sitting in the fountain in Trafalgar Square in 1918 surrounded by people who are celebrating the end of the war in a really debaucherous way – it was a very surreal and exciting moment that I had never pictured for myself.”
Since her time on Ally McBeal, Julianne has starred in a number of TV shows including Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Boardwalk Empire, Masters of Sex and Mare of Easttown.
Meanwhile, the Dope Girls cast also stars Eliza Scanlen, Dustin Demri-Burns, Geraldine James and Fiona Button.
The dark six-part series is based on Marek Kohn’s 1992 book Dope Girls: The Birth of the British Drug Underground
Dope Girls starts tonight at 9.15pm on BBC One.
Gerwyn Price sent crashing back down to earth with damning verdict on how Jake Paul boxing match would end
GERWYN PRICE has been shot down after claiming he could knock out Jake Paul with one punch.
Fellow darts star Vincent van der Voort shared his verdict on the potential clash, giving the Iceman no chance of winning.

He explained Price may be physically strong but that alone is not enough to defeat somebody in the ring – particularly a fighter like Paul who trains consistently.
Van der Voort said on the Darts Draait Door podcast: “Gerwyn is a strong guy, but people should make no mistake that being strong has nothing to do with boxing. Fighting is different from boxing.
“So I assume this was a joke. Paul boxes every day. It has to do with technique, footwork, combinations and game intelligence.
“Price has never boxed before. Therefore, I don’t assume he wins.”
Price, 39, was adamant he would be able to defeat Paul in a boxing contest, especially if it was held in his native Wales.
He dismissed Paul’s credentials because he is a YouTuber and predicted he would knock him out cold.
Price told talkSPORT: “That’s easy. I look forward to that. He’s a YouTuber; he’s not a fighter, is he?
“He’ll never beat me in Wales. Nobody beats me in Wales.
“He’d probably beat Canelo (if they fought in Mexico), but he’s not beating me, no.
“I think it would just be one punch, and it would be all over. Out cold.”
Wales vs Ireland LIVE SCORE: Dragons play first game without Warren Gatland against Six Nations favourites – updates
WALES and Ireland, two sides with very different ambitions, meet at the Principality at the halfway mark of the Six Nations.
Warren Gatland quit as Wales Head Coach following 14 straight defeats, with a loss in Italy the final straw for the 61-year-old.
The Men in Green have won two from two to start the 2025 Six Nations as they bid to win a third straight title.
If Wales are to avoid the Wooden Spoon, they will need a big result against one of the world’s best sides at the Principality.

New Love Island ‘feud’ as All Stars finalists party at separate venues in London
ANOTHER day, another Love Island feud emerges, and this time it involves Grace Jackson and Luca Bish.
This week’s tense All Stars final saw the couple narrowly miss out on the £50K prize fund to Gabby Allen and professional bombshell Casey O’Gorman.

Last night, to celebrate their big win, Casey and Gabby’s showbiz pals put together a surprise party for them at London hotspot, Sheesh.
They were joined at their party by their star pals, including last year’s All Stars winners Tom Clare and Molly Smith.
Tom is Casey’s best mate, after they both appeared on Winter Love Island 2023.
Other stars at the party included Messy Mitch and his girlfriend Hayley Griffin.
The couple’s All Stars co-stars Tina Stinnes and Danielle Sellers were also their to toast to their victory.
However, noticeably absent from the party were their villa friends Luca and Grace.
The couple were runners’ up to Casey and Gabby, and maybe feeling a bit sore after their loss.
Instead the couple decided to lick their wounds elsewhere.
Sparking a feud with the winning couple, Grace posted on Instagram a picture of herself and Luca also in London.
But instead of being at Gabby and Casey’s celebration party, they opted for a quiet dinner alone.
WINNING £50K
This week the Casey and Gabby beat Grace and Luca to the £50K Love Island prize pot.
Following their big win the couple appeared on The Morning After podcast to speak to host and series five star Amy Hart.
Amy said: “You’re about to have a little windfall into your bank – fifty grand, twenty five grand each, what are you going to spend it on?”
Gabby replied: “I didn’t even know that was a thing until just now! I didn’t know that’s what you won.”
Amy quizzed: “Did they ask for your bank details, like, ‘we’ll transfer you’.”

A stunned Gabby said: “Yeah! It was literally that.”
Revealing their plans for the winnings, Casey – who appeared as a bombshell on series nine and the first All-Stars spin-off before his late entrance this year – said: “We’ve got to go away.
“Somewhere nice. I think we’ll go to the Maldives.”
Happy with her man’s answer, Gabby nodded and added: “Sexy.”
She continued: “The first thing that came into my head was that I’d like to do something nice with my mum, take her on holiday as well.”

SMITTEN CASEY
Speaking ahead of their victory on Monday, Casey told Love Island host Maya Jama: “I absolutely adore her.
“She has just blown me off my socks since I got here.
“As soon as that first conversation I had with her, it was game over for me.”
