AS EASTENDERS marks its 40th anniversary, Ross Kemp has returned to Albert Square to reprise his iconic role as Grant Mitchell, stirring nostalgia for one of the soap’s most legendary bad boys.

While reflecting on his time in Walford, the actor made a surprising confession about how he used to manipulate his way into scenes he hadn’t even been scripted for.

During an appearance on The Graham Norton Show ahead of his highly anticipated return, Ross shared his memories of EastEnders’ ability to tackle hard-hitting social issues.

He shared: “Being back reminded me of the impact the show had on serious subject matters like HIV, child pregnancy and domestic violence.

“I am very proud of what it has achieved over the years.”

But it wasn’t all high drama – there was a bit of cheeky scheming going on behind the scenes as well.

When asked about the importance of EastEnders’ famous ‘duff duff’ cliffhanger endings, Ross admitted: “I didn’t really care about getting them but I did care about inserting myself into scripts I hadn’t been written into so I could get paid more, so you’d often see me popping up at the bar in a scene and ordering a pint!”

Grant Mitchell was a central character in EastEnders, who constantly stirred up drama with his fiery temper, criminal tendencies, and explosive relationship with Sharon Watts.

His turbulent marriage to Sharon (Letitia Dean) remains one of the most memorable storylines in British soap history.

It culminated in the infamous Sharongate scandal, where Grant publicly played a tape of Sharon confessing to her affair with his brother, Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden).

The fallout led to one of the biggest confrontations in the show’s history, with Grant leaving Phil beaten and unconscious.

Now, decades later, Grant is back to help Phil in his time of need.

His return is bound to stir old emotions, particularly when it comes to Sharon.

Ross teased that his character has never truly moved on, admitting: “Grant will always harbour feelings for Sharon.

“He’s secretly in love with her, and I think he believes they are meant to be together, it’s just that Phil keeps getting in the way!”

ARNE SLOT has broken his silence after being sent off following Liverpool’s dramatic 2-2 draw at Everton.

But ahead of Liverpool’s home game with Wolves on Sunday, the Dutch manager spoke out but refused to give details over his ban.

He said: “There’s an ongoing process now and I think I have to respect that we have to respect that so can’t go into details. 

“What happened was that the extra time, five minutes that ended up being eight, happens a lot.

“The emotions go the better of me. I would love to do it differently and am looking to do it differently next time as well, but I don’t want to disturb the ongoing process.”

The Premier League deleted a statement suggesting Slot will face a two-match touchline ban for alleged “offensive, insulting, or abusive language”.

So the process is still under review meaning the Dutchman could be in the Liverpool dugout over the weekend while the investigation carries on.

But Jones will miss the match following two yellow cards.

Slot added: “The good thing is we have played so many games. He got a second yellow I assume so that’s only one game.

“Next Wednesday there is a game, he comes back from an injury so he already missed a few games.

“I liked him a lot when he came on. It was our best part of the game, the only part of the game where I felt a bit of comfort and where it felt like a bit of control. That is maybe because we went 2-1 up.

“I like a lot that he stands up for the team but I think there are also other ways to do that for the team and the fans.

“I will talk with him about that. But it is the same for me, I should have acted differently after the game as well.

“But it is an emotional game and sometimes people make the wrong decisions in an emotional moment and that’s what I did.”

With Jones also out, Liverpool face more injury misery with Cody Gakpo to be sidelined along with Joe Gomez is out and Tyler Morton.

Slot said: “Joe Gomez is out and Tyler Morton is out. Cody is a bit of a doubt as well, so let’s wait [to see] how he is today.

“I had to take him off because of an injury, because he got a knock, so let’s see how he is today.”

Scott revealed his age while chatting to former Love Island star Whitney Adebayo and her sister Lizzie on their podcast, So What’s It Giving?.

Lizzie said: “You just celebrated your birthday. You’re a new age. How old did you turn?”

Scott, who starred on the 2023 series of Love Island UK, replied: “I’m now 24. I feel old.

“I’m now mid-20s. Twenty to 23 is your early 20s, and then 24, 25, 26 is mid-20s.

“So I’m now in my mid-20s and I need to get my s*** together.”

The Welsh goalkeeper then asked: “Is it a compliment to call a guy older? You need to call a woman younger. Do guys even want…. I don’t care!”

A clip of Scott discussing his age has now been shared on the podcast’s official Instagram and YouTube pages and fans are stunned.

Scott recently confirmed that he pulled out of the current run of All Stars with just two days to go.

He told Whitney and Lizzie about why he changed his mind at the last minute.

Scott said: “I just didn’t feel like it was the right time, you know when you know.”

He continued: “Did I feel like it was the right time to walk in that Villa? Personally, no.”

Scott then discussed the elephant in the room – his ex Catherine Agbaje, who is currently in the All Stars villa.

“Obviously everyone’s got an opinion about the situation and Catherine being in the villa,” he said, cautiously.

Whitney asked: “If you were in there who would you have coupled up with?”

Scott replied: “Obviously me and Cat (Catherine), if we were put in that situation again, then you never know what could happen.

“But I feel like if we were put in that situation again and it didn’t work and I went a different way, I feel like I just I would just get hated for it.”

A Brit has been killed and three others seriously injured after the quadracycle they were riding crashed with a car in New Zealand.

The two couples – thought to all be British tourists – were on the four-man bicycle on Puruatanga Road in Martinborough, 65km east of Wellington, around 10.45am on Thursday when the accident happened.

One person died at the scene, while the other three were airlifted to Wellington Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the car was reportedly not hurt and is in contact with police.

Local resident Phil McArthur, who was one of the first people on scene, told Otago Daily Times: ‘I was just heading down the road … and then I saw a scene where there were four people lying on side of the road, with a pretty written off bike.

‘There was about five or six people that got there before me, and basically we had to give first aid to a couple of, you know, pretty serious injuries, which was not very nice.’

He said the injuries were those you’d expect ‘if a car hit a bike at a reasonable speed’.

The group had hired the bicycle from Indi Bike hire company and were planning to explore the local vineyards, according to the owner of the firm Wade Mines.

‘I’m absolutely devastated. I’m worried for the people involved. It’s a beautiful day in Martinborough. The bikes are easily seen. It’s unbelievable that it’s happened,’ he said

He added that in the ten years he’s been hiring the bikes out there had never been any incidents, not even ‘scuffs and bumps’.

It’s understood the group were aged in their late 40s and early 50s.

Mr Mines said the couples weren’t ‘party-party people’ and didn’t seem like the types to go and get drunk.

Police are investigating the crash.

South Wairarapa Mayor Martin Connelly told RNZ that the council will wait for a police report before taking action on reviewing the speed limit on the road.

Speaking today, the mayor added that the road is very wide and visibility is very clear.
