Legendary comedy duo set to reunite for new Channel 4 series with up-and-coming comedians

IT’S been nearly ten years since they called time on their hit series Peep Show.

Now, David Mitchell and Robert Webb are set to reunite in a new Channel 4 comedy.

The duo will star in a sketch series which sees them combine their talents with the bright ideas of the comedy writers and performers of the future.

Mitchell and Webb will be joined by Ghosts actor Kiell Smith-Bynoe, who currently hosts The Great British Sewing Bee, and comedians Lara Ricote, Stevie Martin and Kystral Evans.

The six-parter will be produced by the team behind recent hit comedy drama Ludwig — which starred David as a puzzle-solving recluse — and Channel 4’s Friday Night Dinner.

Despite their popularity on screen, David and Robert admitted they were shocked to be invited back for more on Channel 4 — with Peep Show last airing in December 2015.

The comedy, which began in 2003 and ran for nine seasons, followed the lives of dysfunctional best friends Mark and Jez.

They joked: “When Channel 4 asked us to do another sketch show we were startled, bemused and available.

“It’s a perilous time for the industry, and so it’s our hope that relaunching the trickiest genre of comedy is a brilliant piece of counterintuitive commissioning.

“And we’re confident that, unlike Roger Moore with his shoe on the bonnet of a car teetering on the edge of a cliff in For Your Eyes Only, we’re not about to give British TV comedy a final lethal nudge into the abyss.

“We’re looking forward to working with our brilliant new cast despite their youth and talent, and would like to encourage viewers to watch the advert break carefully and do their best to buy something.

“It doesn’t have to be a car but, you know, a box of chocolates or an app or something.”

Kiell celebrated the chance to work with the pair, adding: “It feels like getting to sit on the grown-ups table that you’ve been trying to get on for years.

“Then you realise the grown-ups are just as funny, silly, and they’ll let you have a sip of Advocaat.

“I’m really excited to be a part of this long-awaited return of comedy royalty.”

BADDIEL PEDALS C4 SHOW

HUGH DENNIS and David Baddiel have revealed why they signed up to cycle across France for a show – it ticks off one of just two things they have not done together.

New series Two Men On A Bike – which starts on Monday at 9pm on More4 – sees the comedy pals travel from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea, heading across the French coast to Bordeaux and on to the port of Pont Des Sables.

David joked: “We’ve played football together, we’ve eaten together, we’ve done comedy together, we’ve driven across Africa together, but there are two things we’ve not done.

“We’ve not cycled together, and we’ve not had sex together . . .  and now we’ve only got one left!”

I’m not sure they will film that for telly, David.

KEELEY SHOOTS GREEK THRILLER

KEELEY HAWES has swapped her period dresses for combat gear and a sniper’s rifle in this first look at her new thiller, The Assassin.

The actress – currently appearing in BBC drama Miss Austen – is gun-totting leading lady Julie in Prime Video’s new series.

Written by the masterminds behind The Tourist and Fleabag, the six-part crime drama tells the story of a retired assassin living on a remote island in Greece, who is reunited with her estranged son, Edward, played by The Good Doctor’s Freddie Highmore.

But it is not long before the pair find themselves in grave danger when the assassin’s past comes back to haunt her, and they are forced to go on the run together.

Keeley said of their time filming: “I feel so lucky to have spent the summer in Athens, going to work has never been so much fun – and I hope everyone enjoys The Assassin as much as we did.

“Bringing Jack and Harry Williams’ spectacular scripts to life was an absolute joy.”

Freddie added: “It doesn’t get better than a Greek adventure alongside the lovely and incomparable Keeley Hawes.

“I’m really excited for people to get glimpse some of what we have been up to.”

THE AXE FOR ‘SICK’ MANOR

VIEWERS branded it the “sickest series in history”, as randy mums gathered in a Love Island-style villa to date each other’s sons.

So there’s little surprise that bosses at Discovery+ have decided to retire MILF Manor, after just two series.

The controversial format was one of the raunchiest dating shows in the UK and US. It featured a group of women aged between 40 and 60 and their sons.

In toe-curling scenes, they would hook up with each other’s boys, and all sleep in the same bedroom.

An insider said: “The series got everyone talking thanks to its shock factor, but raising so many eyebrows has meant that there are currently no plans for a third series.”

ANDROID users will now finally be able to watch popular Apple TV+ programmes including Severance, The Morning Show and Slow Horses.

The app launched on Wednesday in the Google Play Store. It had only previously been available to people who used Apple devices.

ALAN’S SHOW OF GENIUS

HE shot to fame on Channel 4, now Alan Carr is returning to the place where he became a star hosting Chatty Man.

The comedian, who went on to work for ITV and the BBC, is going back to his roots to host new show, Hidden Genius.

He’s teaming up with Countdown words whizz Susie Dent on the project in which they search for the nation’s hidden brainboxes.

Alan – usually to be found renovating houses with his old mucker Amanda Holden on the Spanish Job and The Italian Job shows – said: “I have never been called a genius believe it or not.

“However, I am fascinated by those people who are given the “genius” label.

“Is it a gift, a curse or a burden? I am so excited about Secret Genius, it’s going to be absolutely fascinating finding out what makes these people tick and also challenging prejudices along the way.”

PUNCHY SHOW’S ROUND 2

DISNEY+ drama A Thousand Blows is to get a second series before the first has even dropped.

The Victorian gangster thriller, set to go out from February 21, has not only had a sequel ordered but it’s already been filmed.

Stephen Graham as Sugar Goodson in A Thousand Blows.

Bosses at the streamer were obviously so impressed by Steven Kight’s Peaky Blinders-esque retelling of this true story, that they wanted him on board for more.

Talking this week, Steven said: “It’s done. I can’t tease, but it’s more of the same.

“Expect the unexpected. We all want to keep this story going – and I think we will just take it towards the 20th century.”

The drama stars Stephen Graham and Malachi Kirby as rival boxers in London’s East End who are embroiled in an epic clash.

Caught between them is Erin Doherty, a female gangster caught in a tug of war between them both.

A belter of a drama and we should all rejoice that it won’t be a one-hit wonder.

Wedderburn said: “Nick, we love you. Obviously, we are going to miss you.”

When Powell could muster some words, he was composed to make a joke.

“Someone has gone through a lot of trouble and thank you very much.”

The clip was shared on social media and many of Powell’s fans took the chance to wish him well in the comments.

The reality star previously revealed her secret hair transplant to social media followers.

She has now posted a throwback snap revealing a swollen face and bruised forehead.

Ella captioned her Instagram story: “Hahaha I can’t cope with myself!! Today’s my first proper outing since my surgery…”

In addition, she marvelled at the transformation by sharing a photo of her new look.

Ella added: “How have I gone from this… to this in a week.

“I tell you us trans dolls are stronger than weightlifters.. we are the blue print!”

The star previously explained how her desire to have the procedure stemmed from scarring in a past facial op.

It left visible marks along her hairline – a source of “insecurity”.

After hinting to fans for nearly a year, Ella surprised her fans by posting a snap of her new hairline to her Instagram story.

She penned: “Sorry I’ve been quiet .. I’ll be back on socials soon .. just taking some time to recover and chill atm.

“I’ve been vlogging the whole thing so you can see my journey when I’ve finished editing it Xx.”

Last March, she asked fans for surgeon recommendations as she disclosed hopes to have the operation.

Speaking at the time, Ella said: “Hi guys, Since I had my face surgery in August 2021, I’ve got a large scar which goes along my hairline from one ear to the other, and it’s been healed for a while now.

“I want to get a hair transplant to cover it, as it’s something I’m still self conscious of when I wear my hair back.

“Any recommendations for clinics who offer the best hair transplant for women that would be amazing.”

Following her Married At First Sight stint, Ella later went on to appear in Celebs Go Dating.

The Sun exclusively revealed last month that she had split from Alex James Ali after rumours of infidelity within the relationship.

Married at First Sight's best moments

Married at First sight has brought eight explosive series of drama to the small screen. These are some of the best moments

  • When series 8 couple Rozz Darlington and Thomas Kriaras brought secretly brought a sex toy to the couple’s dinner party. Unbeknownst to their fellow cast members who they were having dinner with, Rozz wore a vibrating egg gadget whilst husband Thomas had the controls.
  • Nikita’s exit in series 6. Nikita was removed from the show early on due to her behaviour, which led to her husband Ant re-entering the experiment with Alexis.
  • A slightly more heart warming highlight from series 6 was watching Dan and Matt’s relationship unfold. Dan and Matt were the first same-sex couple on the show, and their relationship was both ground-breaking and adorable.
  • Emma and James’ wedding in series 1. They were the first couple to ever get married on the UK version of the show. Emma and James, had a beautiful ceremony that set the tone for the series.
  • The dinner party showdowns are always a MAFs highlight with explosive arguments and unexpected alliances forming.

A rep for Ella told us: “Ella is extremely grateful for her time on Celebs Go Dating and for meeting Alex.

“Sadly the couple had decided to split recently this month, but Ella was unaware of any messaging between Alex and other girls during the time they were together.

“This has come as a bit of a shock and so Ella will be focusing the rest of the Christmas and festive period on spending time with her family, alongside focusing on her career and wellbeing.

“She has learnt so much about what she wants and deserves, and knows what her worth is, which is the most important thing.”

Trolls call my filthy house ‘child neglect’ after I shared my mouldy plates & rubbish – it’s hard as a single mum-of-3

A SINGLE mum has been slammed online for sharing a sneak peak into her extremely messy house.

Claiming her situation is “realistic to many” the shamed parent took to social media to defend herself.

She shared a candid video of her attempt to tidy up, battling the chaotic kitchen alone.

Posting from her TikTok account, @vmumofthree, the mum used the hashtags #hoarderhouse and #normalisemess to describe her situation.

In the clip, her kitchen worktops were barely visible through the mess, covered in leftover bread, opened tubs of butter and cereal boxes.

Wearing pink gloves, she tried her hardest to organise the clutter, binning what she could and tidying away the rest.

The single parent had armed herself with a mop, bin bags and dustpan in a bid to clean up.

But it was obvious that this mammoth task wasn’t going to be easy.

Picking up a packet of crumpets sat on top of a stack of dishes, she revealed old, used teabags and black mould that had been festering underneath.

Flies buzzed around the dirty dishes, swarming the stained bowls and teaspoons.

And the insects had even migrated over to other areas of the room, loving the dirt and grime.

Panning the camera round, viewers could see that the kitchen doors were covered in dark marks and stains from unknown substances.

The floor was also completely covered, littered with plastic bags and used food containers.

And the sheer amount of rubbish laying around meant the flooring itself was completely out of sight.

Cleaning hacks and tips

Here are some tips to help you clean your home like a pro:

Viewers react

Shocked viewers flooded the comment section with abuse.

“This is just straight up neglect. It’s a huge difference between a messy house and a DIRTY house,” said one user.

“There’s actually flies! Nah, I can’t actually believe this is real, how!?” another chimed in.

“Realistic is untidy but NOT filthy, I would wipe my feet on the way out tbh,” someone else said.

“Imagine what the bathroom is like,” another cringed.

Defending herself in the comment section, the mother said: “All everyone’s doing is proving the stigma around mental health. These comments are all more shocking than my house and it’s literally grim.”

New Channel 4 reality series to rival The Traitors to give away a huge fortune

CHANNEL 4 are launching a brand new reality series to rival The Traitors.

The broadcaster has green-lit the show, called The Inheritance which comes with a whopping cash jackpot.

Just like their BBC competitor, the show will see deceit and lies amongst the contestants[/caption]

Set to air over 12 episodes, the brand new competition series sees the contestants sent to a grand countryside manner.

Left behind and for them to inherit is a vast fortune by the deceased who previously lived at the mansion.

Leaving video messages for the players from beyond the grave, they must compete in a series of challenges to unlock money from the will.

The same team behind smash-hit The Traitors and Squid Game: The Challenge will produce the new show.

Just like The Traitors, there’s lies and deceit throughout the game and the players will have to convince each other that only they should be trusted with the money pot.

Speaking about the new series,  Steve Handley, C4‘s Head of Reality & Entertainment, said: “The Inheritance isn’t just a battle of strategy, alliances, and inevitable betrayals – it’s a cocktail of drama, jeopardy, and outright mischief that Reality fans love.

“I can’t wait to see how our players handle the challenges, the twists, and a few sneaky surprises.”

Tim Harcourt, Studio Lambert’s Chief Creative Officer added: “We often work together in life and yet some team-members seem to get so much more than others.

“This incredible game – part Knives Out, part Succession – can finally show us why this happens… and what better way to explore the notions of fairness and entitlement than through the delicious prism of a fight over a will’.”

Channel 4 have yet to reveal when The Inheritance will air.

Channel 4's best competition shows

Channel 4 boasts a number impressive competition shows, but which ones are really the best?

Four in a Bed

  • Reality competition show Four in a Bed has been airing on Channel 4 since 2010. It follows four couples as they take turns to stay at each others B&Bs and hotels, rating their stays along the way. The couple with the establishment voted best value for money are the winners.

Come Dine With Me

  • Come Dine With Me has been staple British viewing since 2005, providing some outrageous telly moments over the years. Like Four in a Bed, the series moves around to different properties as it follows four contestants as they each host a (supposedly) gourmet dinner party for each other. After each dinner the guests score the host out of 10, will the winner being revealed on the final evening.

The Great British Bake Off

  • Another national treasure, The Great British Bake Off welcomes a group of 12 amateur bakers to put their culinary skills to the test with Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith judging their efforts. One contestant is eliminated each week until the final three face off in the last week.

Bake Off: The Professionals

  • Bake Off: The Professionals puts a twist on GBBO, pitting two teams of professional pastry chefs against each other in every episode. It’s up to judges Benoit Blin and Cherish Finden to determine who has what it takes to make it through to the final.

Love Island All Stars AXES game that caused HUGE drama and Ofcom complaints

LOVE Island All Stars bosses have AXED a game that drew Ofcom complaints because of its unbelievable drama in the villa.

Previously known as Movie Night and The Grafties, last year’s PDA Awards have been scrapped.

Three women at a table, laughing and holding drinks.

Huge fights kicked off between Islanders when awards including Most Sneaky All Star and Most Salty All Star were handed out, with winners encouraged to give a speech.

In summer 2024, viewers furiously contacted the TV regulator to complain about Nicole Samuel‘s outburst after watching her partner Ciaran Davies in Casa Amor.

This year, producers wanted something totally fresh to entertain viewers – and take the stars by surprise.

A source told The Sun: “This series of All Stars has ditched the PDA awards, which caused loads of bad blood in the villa last year and got fans complaining to Ofcom.

“PDA Awards replaced Movie Night and The Grafties, both popular challenges in the main series, but for this second round of All Stars, show bosses didn’t want to repeat themselves.

“All Stars has totally different format points to the regular series, and they want to keep viewers on their toes.

“But even though there won’t be anything like the PDAs or movie night, there are lots of surprises and unexpected twists and turns in store for the final days of the series.

“It’s going to go out with a bang!”

Tonight, the All Star Talent show returns – with Islanders determined to pull out a showstopper.

Harriett wows as a cheerleader with her acrobatic moves, Omar is a cowboy with a talent for balloon art and he impresses Catherine with a love heart.

A shy Gabby tip taps the night away with a dance performance and Sammy performs some circus skills with the help of Casey.

A nervous Elma fights her fears to play an Ed Sheeran classic on the violin.

Catherine shows off her cake decorating skills whilst Luca gets the Villa dancing with a song from The Wanted.

Ronnie has a kick about and does some footie tricks with Luca in goal and Curtis treats the Islanders to an iconic mix of his dancing styles from Cha Cha to Samba and breakdancing.

Grace is a rhythmic gymnast with her hula hoop and ribbon twirling and Casey shocks and amuses with his Ventriloquist dummy ‘Salty’, who’s ready to roast the couples and does not hold back.

Last up is Ekin-Su, who gets the emotions going with a moving piano performance that sees some of her fellow Islanders welling up.

They must then decide who the winner is – and will be awarded with a special prize.

Watch Love Island All Stars tonight at 9pm on ITV2.

Labour minister ran vile WhatsApp group which branded pensioners ‘terrorists’ & joked Rishi should be deported to Rwanda

A LABOUR minister formerly ran a vile WhatsApp group which branded pensioners “terrorists” and hurled abuse at colleagues, The Sun can reveal.

Education Minister Stephen Morgan was the administrator of a Labour-run chat, which was filled with slurs against elderly protesters and veterans who opposed mass immigration.

Meme of two men in suits walking, text reads "Come on, you don't want to miss the Rwanda flight."
An AI-generated picture was shared, showing Sir Keir Starmer leading a miniature Rishi Sunak by the hand

They also launched a foul-mouthed attack on a political rival and shared memes of ex-PM Rishi Sunak being deported to Rwanda.

The revelation piles pressure on Labour as it comes after health minister Andrew Gwynne and Oliver Ryan MP were booted from the party over offensive messages in their own group chat.

In addition to Mr Morgan, the Portsmouth South WhatsApp was administered by Labour’s other city MP, Amanda Martin, and packed with Labour councillors and local activists.

Just days after the Southport riots over summer, members of the group openly celebrated counter-protesters who ambushed elderly demonstrators in Portsmouth’s Guildhall Square.

The small group of pensioners, veterans, and disabled protesters had staged a silent walk carrying banners reading “Veterans before asylum seekers”.

But instead of condemning the counter-protesters who screamed “Nazi scum off our streets” at the elderly, messages in the chat praised their actions.

Labour Councillor Asghar Shah wrote on the group:“I appreciate your fight against criminals and their fight and crimes.”

Others members likened the protesters to “nazis” and “fascist thugs” before some urged restraint, warning that using such inflammatory language could backfire.

But one member insisted: “They are terrorists who want to divide our community through hate and fear.”

Kim Jones, who was at the protest with her 84-year old mother, said: “It reduced my mum to tears. She was born during the war and to be called a Nazi…

“They don’t even know us, they just brand us far-right thugs, and we’re nothing like that. We’re just normal people.”

The group also hurled a foul four-letter slur aimed at Lib Dem Councillor Lee Hunt, writing: “Only one letter off from what he is.”

And an AI-generated picture was shared, showing Sir Keir Starmer leading a miniature Rishi Sunak by the hand, with a caption reading: “C’mon, you don’t want to miss the Rwanda flight.”

Some of the leaked messages, seen by The Sun, accused Israel of “genocide” and calling it a “failed project.”

One activist wrote: “It is about American and Zionist colonialism. It is genocide.”

Another claimed Israel should cease to exist, stating: “I personally feel that in the longer term, Israel is a failed project.”

The Sun has not seen evidence to suggest that either admin challenged or moderated the language used in the group chat.

Portsmouth Independent Party (PiP) leader Councillor George Madgwick had shared some leaked screenshots from the WhatsApp group at a council meeting in November last year.

Both Mr Morgan and Ms Martin quietly stepped down as admins at the time—but in light of these fresh revelations, they refused to comment.

A Portsmouth Labour spokesperson said: “We acknowledge some of the language used in this chat should be of a higher standard. Portsmouth Labour will continue to campaign relentlessly for the change that residents want, and for the services Portsmouth council taxpayers deserve.”

Labour insisted they would always assess any complaints thoroughly and take robust disciplinary action where required.

But the Tories urged Mr Morgan to urgently “come clean”.

Shadow Cabinet Office Minister Mike Wood said: “This Labour Minister has serious questions to answer. Was Stephen Morgan aware of the messages being sent in a group he was admin of, and if so, why did he sit idly by as individuals made these hateful remarks?

“He must urgently come clean.”

Ex-Cabinet Minister and Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt also said: “Politics should be about service and taking responsibility. you want people who believe they can make a difference to their community to be encouraged. This is the exact anthesis of that.”
