New Bridget Jones film set to be a huge hit as it beats Barbie to sell staggering number of presale tickets
THE latest Bridget Jones movie has beaten Barbie in pre-sale tickets ahead of its release today.
More than 150,000 seats have already been booked in the UK by cinema chain Odeon, with more than half of those sold for Valentine’s Day.

It is set to be the busiest weekend at the box office so far in 2025 — with Marvel superhero movie Captain America: Brave New World also hitting the big screen.
Bridget’s last outing — Bridget Jones’s Baby in 2016 — made £8.1million in its opening weekend.
Fourth and “final” film Bridget Jones: Mad About a Boy is expected to far exceed those figures.
Barbie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, made £18.4million in UK cinemas in its first weekend when released in July 2023.
Robert Mitchell, of film industry experts Gower Street Analytics, said: “We’re anticipating it to be one of the biggest titles of the year in the UK, the biggest British film of the year, and the biggest box office for the first half of 2025.”
Eduardo Leal, of Vue cinemas, said: “Pre-sales are even higher than for blockbusters like Barbie. It is tracking to be the biggest ever Bridget Jones film.”
Renee Zellweger, 55, is reprising her role as Bridget for the movie, which is based on the 2013 novel of the same name by Helen Fielding.
Odeon boss Suzie Welch said: “We are eagerly anticipating a fantastic opening weekend. It’s lovely to see how excited fans are to welcome Bridget back.”
To celebrate the release, Odeon has also launched a Bridget-themed Flirty Fizz cocktail at selected cinemas.
The movie will see Bridget as a single mother-of-two, following the death of her partner Mark Darcy, played by Colin Firth.
She ends up in a relationship with a young park supervisor, played by Leo Woodall, 28.
But the movie faces tough competition at the box office against Marvel’s latest offering, starring Harrison Ford and Anthony Mackie.
Mr Mitchell added: “We’re anticipating a bumper Valentine’s weekend. I think Bridget is perfectly placed counter-programming to Captain America.”
The Sun first revealed in July 2022 how the latest Bridget film was in the works.
Shooting lasted from May until August last year in London.
Renee said of Bridget: “I love this character. It’s such a unique experience to have the opportunity to revisit a character, to get to know her in a different stage of her life as she evolves and grows. I feel great warmth for her.
“I’m also really protective over her and so the quality of the project is always at the forefront.”
- A PIZZA delivery scooter from Bridget Jones’s Baby — used to rush her to hospital after going into labour — is expected to fetch £12,000 at Ewbank’s auctions, Surrey, in a sale on April 4.

RETURN TO FORM AND SO LIKELY TO RETURN
FIRST REVIEW BRIDGET JONES: MAD ABOUT THE BOY
4 stars
ROSES are red, violets are blue, this is supposed to be the final Bridget Jones, I don’t believe it, do you?
Released in time for Valentine’s Day tomorrow, Renee Zellweger’s fourth turn as the diary-keeping Brit is sure to be a box office smash.
Those many fans who pre-ordered tickets will be rewarded with all the ridiculous humour that made the original film a hit 24 years ago.
There are double entendres’ about an “essential tool” and lots of F-bombs.
And there is a perfectly timed gag where Bridget’s toyboy lover strips off to save a pet pooch from a pool in front of her pals.
In Mad About the Boy, our heroine, with kids in tow, is a widow being urged to find a new man following the death of her husband Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) four years ago.
She dives into a relationship with twentysomething Roxster (One Day’s Leo Woodall) and then finds herself drawn to her children’s new teacher Mr Wallaker (Chiwetel Ejiofor).
Not all the gags land well and towards the end the tear-jerking plot about grief takes centre stage.
But on the evidence of this movie, fiftysomething Bridget is still a long way from retirement.
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is in cinemas today.
Channel 4 launch brutal new ‘dog-eat-dog’ TV show ‘as savage as The Hunger Games’ with huge cash prize

THERE’S definitely a recurring theme in the TV world right now – and it’s all based around the idea of hunting.
First we had Hunted on Channel 4, then Celebrity Bear Hunt on Netflix with Bear Grylls and Holly Willoughby.

Even BBC One’s The Traitors hosted by Claudia Winkleman has Faithfuls tracking down their opposite numbers.
Now C4 has come up with another big show called The Hunt, which takes the idea of pursuit to the next level.
Its savagery sounds up there with The Hunger Games, starring Jennifer Lawrence as skilled hunter Katniss.
Nobody actually gets killed, of course, but the winners do stand the chance of getting a £100,000 jackpot if they make it to the final stage.
Steven Handley, C4’s head of reality and entertainment, said the show “delivers high-octane adventure reality” using “innovative gaming tech”.
He added: “I can’t wait to discover what strategies a group of ordinary Brits will use to survive in a world where there is only one rule — hunt or be hunted.”
C4 is due to unveil the series at the London launch of its 2025 standout shows. But I’ve got the inside track on The Hunt, which looks like its biggest of the year.
It doesn’t have a host, and the glue keeping everything together seems to be the tech — tracking equipment that follows competitors dropped into a forest for “the ultimate real-world game of hide and seek”.
C4 is ratcheting up the hype, saying it will be a “dog-eat-dog hunt” where players become “Predator or Prey”.
The Prey keep the cash, while Predators pursue them for it, before returning to a futuristic base camp.
It all sounds very exciting, a tad familiar . . . and expensive.
Slim Brian takes jab at celebs
ACTOR BRIAN COX has revealed he takes Ozempic to treat his diabetes – and hit out at celebrities who use it to lose weight.
He was talking to Jonathan Ross during filming for the chat show host’s ITV1 programme this week.

After Jonathan complimented the Succession star on his slim figure, Brian explained: “I know, because of Ozempic.
“I am a diabetic, and Ozempic is for diabetics – it is not for fat people.”
Brian appears alongside Strictly’s Oti Mabuse, Chris McCausland and actress Christina Hendricks on Saturday at 9.35pm.
Shames 90s acts pop off
THE BBC has been forced to pull episodes of Top Of The Pops after a string of sex scandals involving Nineties chart-toppers.
The schedule was thrown into chaos as the Friday night repeats of the music series on BBC Four reached 1997, a year dominated by R&B hitmakers R Kelly and P Diddy.

Four episodes, broadcast in March and April 1997, were taken off because they feature disgraced rapper R Kelly, who was found guilty of racketeering and producing child sexual abuse images, singing I Believe I Can Fly.
The BBC will also skip a run of episodes from the summer of the same year, as Sean “Diddy” Combs topped the charts for six weeks with I’ll Be Missing You.
He is due for trial later this year on sex trafficking and racketeering charges.
An insider said: “At this rate the only No1 from 1997 that will get shown is Teletubbies.”
Carol’s Brassic blow
BRASSIC fans who were counting down the days until Carol Vorderman made a cameo in the comedy drama will be disappointed.
I revealed the maths whizz, who is a fan of the Sky show, was going to be making a guest appearance as herself.

But due to diary conflicts, the former Countdown favourite now cannot commit to her scenes, and filming on the seventh and final season has started at a pace.
And time is of the essence – because leading lady Michelle Keegan, who is married to Mark Wright, is pregnant with their first baby, and is likely to take maternity leave once filming on Brassic has wrapped.
Perhaps Sky could tap up Countdown’s Susie Dent or Rachel Riley, as they only seem to work mid-afternoon.
Wildlife extreme survival
A NEW documentary series will look into the high-stakes battle for wildlife survival.
Extreme Planet Earth, on ITV1 next year, reveals how animals across the world are enduring and evolving to meet demands of environmental upheaval.

I can exclusively reveal the six-parter will feature elephants navigating Borneo’s growing floods, wombats struggling with fires in the Australian Outback, leopards suffering in droughts and the Great Barrier Reef’s clown fish in a marine heatwave.
It will meet conservationists and scientists working to protect species.
A show insider said: “From the devastating fires in Los Angeles to floods across Europe, extreme weather is constantly breaking news and affecting us all.
“We are going to unveil how our favourite wildlife faces these challenges with sheer courage, resilience and determination.”
Break is a Greek tragedy
THE production firm behind Michaela Coel’s hit I May Destroy You is working on a new BBC One drama series.
Set in Greece, Two Weeks In August tells of Zoe, who goes on holiday with her family and friends and finds herself trapped in a nightmare.

What starts with an illicit kiss turns dark, as she acts on her deepest desires and the break becomes a reckoning for some.
When the group realise they are trapped on the island, they start blaming each other.
But given they are in the land of the ancient gods, could bigger forces be at play?
The eight-parter is being produced by Various Artists Limited, which brought us I May Destroy You on BBC One in 2020.
GAME Of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage will star alongside Michael C Hall in the next series of Paramount+ show Dexter: Resurrection as Leon Prater, a billionaire venture capitalist hiding a dark secret.
The ten episodes will also feature Uma Thurman and David Zayas.
THE start date for Towie’s latest run has been confirmed as February 23.
The ITVBe show – now in its 15th year – will look into the split between show favourites Diags and Jodie Wells, and Dan Edgar and Ella Rae Wise’s reunion ahead of his Dancing On Ice appearance.

Wigan Warriors star Junior Nsemba asking Man Utd ace for advice ahead of Super League season – despite rift with family
NOT everybody would be looking to a Manchester United player for advice at the moment.
But Wigan forward Junior Nsemba has been taking counsel from Red Devils No1 Andre Onana – despite the Warriors star’s uncle Rigobert Song dropping the keeper when he was Cameroon boss.

Nsemba was the Super League smash hit of 2024, going from unknown to main man of the Quad-winning Warriors.
The 20-year-old may be born and bred in Wigan but his roots are firmly in Cameroon.
And when United stars came to training with Warriors recently, there was only one he gravitated towards – Cameroonian Onana, another bloke who is decent with his hands.
Nsemba said: “I spoke to him a lot.
“He’s a very respectful guy and he knows how to use his words.
“It wasn’t favouritism with me coming from Cameroon – we both hail from Yaounde – but he gave me advice about what to do with my life and how I should approach going back to Cameroon.
“He was very helpful. He’s top of his sport and having a conversation was special and he was intrigued about rugby as he didn’t know what it was.
“When he saw us hitting the pads and other players, he was shocked. He was saying he’d get put in hospital.

“And I’ve got a way of talking to him. Hopefully, we’ll see him in future.”
Wigan begin their Treble defence – there is no World Club Challenge this year – with Thursday’s season opener against Leigh.
But in two weeks, the Warriors will swap Standish for the Strip as they head to Las Vegas to face Warrington.
For Nsemba, though, that may mean a quiet week while his older team-mates, above the legal age for drinking in the US, can sample Sin City.
He added: “I’ll drink Fruit Shoot and play chess – I can’t do anything else, can I?
“I’m still a young pup, so I won’t be stepping out of the hotel if I don’t really need to.
“And the fact I’m underage has been mentioned a lot. I’ve heard they’re really keen on checking if people are old enough.
I’ll drink Fruit Shoot and play chess – I can’t do anything else, can I?
JUNIOR NSEMBA ON GOING TO LAS VEGAS
“I’m trying to ignore it until it comes and see what I can do. For now, I’m trying to block it out!”
They might not recognise Nsemba in the USA, but he is turning heads in the North West of England after his stellar year.
He is very much in demand – even when he goes to the supermarket.
Nsemba said: “When I’ve been in Asda, I’ve seen the same guy three times.

“I’ve had a couple of conversations with him and that’s good. It’s nice I’m being recognised and it puts a smile on my face knowing the community is recognising me.
“And I’m not going to be fake. If fast food is on top of my trolley, I’ll keep it there – if Matt (Wigan boss Matt Peet) or someone walks through, I may need to hide it!
“Hide the burgers!”

Infamous Man Utd kit which saw Sir Alex Ferguson fined £10,000 set to lose embarrassing record after 29 years
MANCHESTER UNITED’s infamous kit is set to lose its embarrassing record after 29 years.
In 1996, Southampton triumphed 3-0 over the Red Devils after netting all three goals in the first half.

Sir Alex Ferguson‘s side were wearing what has become known as an infamous grey kit.
The team opted to change the shirts at the break for a blue and white third kit.
The change was done in the hope of switching up the team’s fortunes on the pitch.
However, they were unable to get back into the contest and were instead fined £10,000 for the change of shirts.
This means that the original grey kit was only worn for 45 minutes and is the least work kit.
That record has now finally been broken due to Turkish giants Galatasaray.
The club wore a special Puma kit in their clash against Adana Demispor.
However, their rivals walked out in protest because of the referee’s decisions during the game.
CASINO SPECIAL – BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS
The walkout occurred in the 34th minute of the match, beating Man United’s record by 11 minutes.
The match was suspended with the score 1-0 to Galatasaray thanks to a penalty goal from Alvaro Morata.
As a result, it could now go down as the kit worn for the fewest minutes in history unless it is used again.
Ferguson revealed that the grey kit his team used led to them having trouble seeing each other on the pitch.
This theory was eventually proven right by a vision specialist in 2018.
The legendary manager also insisted that the fine was the “best £10,000 he ever spent”.

Everton have enjoyed a recent revival under David Moyes, winning their last three games in the Premier League, but the arrival of table toppers Liverpool will be the Scotsman’s toughest test since he returned to the club last month.
Arne Slot‘s men will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the Prem and get back to winning ways after his side was on the end of a dramatic FA Cup upset at Plymouth on Sunday.
