Man Utd flops ‘questioning Ruben Amorim’s tactics and discussing change of style’ as they lurk close to relegation

MANCHESTER UNITED stars have questioned whether boss Ruben Amorim should change his system, according to reports.

The Portuguese, 40, has implemented a 3-4-3 formation since moving to Old Trafford in November.

His side have so far struggled to get to grips with it, losing eight of Amorim’s 20 matches in charge in all competitions.

Man Utd’s poor form has seen them slump to 13th in the Premier League table.

According to the Mail, some United players have spoken about whether they’d be better off adapting their tactical approach in order to achieve better results in the short term.

There are claimed to be concerns that the Red Devils will not get better unless Amorim makes changes.

The former Sporting CP boss is very unlikely to make significant tweaks.

Following his side’s 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle in December, Amorim said: “I have to sell my idea. If I change all the time it is going to be even worse.

“I understand they have a lot of difficulties because they spent two years playing one way and now they are playing another.

“With a lot of losses, it is really tough on them. You can feel it, during the game I can feel it but I have to sell my idea because I don’t have another one.

“When you have a change of coach, especially in this type of club, it is because they were not winning.

“They played in the system they were bought for and were chosen perfectly for that system. After two years, working in pre-season, they were losing.

“So am I going to change to that system to something that I don’t believe in? That doesn’t make sense.”

Despite question marks surrounding his system, there are so far no suggestions that Amorim is close to losing the United dressing room.

But Gary Neville has also raised concerns over his old side’s struggles to get to grips with Amorim’s way of playing.

He said on his Gary Neville Podcast: “I thought it would get better when Ruben Amorim came in, the enthusiasm of him and the new system, the players would buy into and we’d see a bounce, but we’ve seen the absolute opposite and it’s got a lot worse.

“They are obviously going to stick with Amorim. But the more you lose, the more difficult it is for the manager to convince the players of his idea.

“It will depress the thoughts of the players to a point whereby they’ll start to lose faith in the idea and it’ll damage you.”

Duriez, of Wallingford, Oxon is set to stand trial at Leicester Crown Court in July after being charged with the assaults between 1989 and 1991.

He is a well-known writer and an expert on fantasy literature.

Bearded Duriez has penned books on the Harry Potter series, Lord of the Rings author JRR Tolkien and Chronicles of Narnia writer C.S Lewis.

He is also a lecturer and has appeared as a commentator on the BBC’s Worlds of Fantasy series and Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings DvD.

Duriez lives with his second wife – author Cindy Zudys – in Oxfordshire and previously lived in Leicestershire and Keswick, Cumbria.

Leicestershire Police said in a statement: “Colin Duriez has has been charged with three counts of sexual assault on a girl under the age of 16 between September 1989 and July 1991.

A spokesperson for Leicester Crown Court added: “I confirm that Colin Duriez is charged with three counts of indecent assault of a girl aged under 16, for trial on July 14.”

Duriez has had a long career writing books and appearing on major TV channels speaking about his work.

His website’s ‘About me’ page, reads: “Colin has contributed to television documentaries including, A Quest for Meaning — Myth, Imagination & Faith in the Literature of J.R.R. Tolkien & C.S. Lewis.

“He has spoken at a variety of conferences on Tolkien, C. S. Lewis and the Inklings in the USA, Canada, Spain, Italy, Poland, Finland, Britain, the Isle of Man and Northern Ireland.”

His best-selling books include The Oxford Inklings: Lewis, Tolkien and their circle, the A-Z of C.S Lewis and A Field Guide to Harry Potter.

Duriez, who has worked as a tutor at Lancaster University, also wrote A Field Guide to Narnia.

He is understood to be involved with Christian groups and has focused his studies on Christian authors including Tolkien and C.S Lewis.

Explaining how his love of literature flourished in an interview published on YouTube last year, Duriez said: “It all started when I was at school and we were reading C.S Lewis’ book Mere Christianity.

“It was through him that I came across Tolkien. I went to the University of Istanbul for two years and that’s where I read Lord of the Rings.

“I then wrote an article on Tolkien and that’s where it all started.

“Since then I’ve written a few books on Tolkien and his friend C.S Lewis.”

And talking about his book A Field Guide to Harry Potter, Duriez said: “I am trying to give and all-in-one guide to the Harry Potter books which takes into account all seven books.

“One of the things which first interested me with the JK Rowling stories is the fact that it was children queueing up to buy them as they came out, and telling their friends they must read them.

“I felt there must be something in them very attractive and nourishing and I started to read them myself.”

And when his brolly bravery was pointed out to him, Rooney joked: “I hope the rain doesn’t come down any more, my hair will be all over the place!”

Rooney is understood to have had two hair transplants.

The procedures are thought to have cost around £30,000.

After his first op in 2011 he was happy to share the experience on social media.

He posted: “Just to confirm to all my followers I have had a hair transplant. I was going bald at 25, why not? I’m delighted with the result.”

Rooney reportedly then had a top-up two years later.

The former Everton striker, 39, was sacked from his last managerial job in December – after just seven months in charge of Plymouth.

But amid a string of offers he chose a TV stint with Amazon.

And in fact it took him just THREE SECONDS with the microphone at the Etihad on Tuesday night to land a dig.

He told his new colleagues: “Obviously a stadium I’ve scored a lot of goals in.”

A grinning Rooney then added: “I’m sure I’ll get a nice welcome.”

One fan responded on X: “6 goals he scored at the Etihad btw wouldn’t say that’s a lot of goals.”

Meanwhile, City were more concerned about keeping Real out – with Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe both starting for the visitors.

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly splashes £40m on brand new team as he expands rich business empire

CHELSEA owner Todd Boehly has plunged into cricket by paying £40million for a 49 per cent stake in Trent Rockets.

The team competes in The Hundred, which is a short-form 100-ball event that started in 2021.

Boehly has been in talks with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) since October when the first round of bidding ended.

The Chelsea chief extends his portfolio to cricket alongside fellow Blues director Jonathan Goldstein via business Cain International.

They have entered a period of exclusivity with Nottinghamshire CCC, who will retain a controlling (51 per cent) stake in the franchise.

American Boehly, who led a consortium which bought Chelsea for £4.25billion in 2022, has stakes in many other teams including baseball’s LA Dodgers.

Their deal will take proceeds from the eight-team Hundred sell-off to around £500million, with one side still to go under the hammer.

Other investors include three IPL franchises, an IT entrepreneur, a consortium of cricket-mad tech tycoons and the owners of Birmingham City, who include NFL legend Tom Brady.

The money will be shared by the recreational game, the 18 counties and MCC.

Meanwhile, England play their final ODI in India tomorrow with Mark Wood insisting they need more time to fire under Brendon McCullum.

England have lost six matches out of seven in India since McCullum took charge of all formats.

Fast bowler Wood said: “Some of the guys are starting under a new coach. It takes time. The Test team was in a different place to the white-ball team.”

Batsman Tom Banton, called up for the injured Jacob Bethell, could play his first match for England since 2020.

My mum taught me the best 10p hack to get our taps sparkling – it banishes hard water stains in seconds

A WOMAN has shared an easy 10p hack to get your taps sparkling like brand new.

Savvy cleaning fan Rachael Eppley took to TikTok to demonstrate how to effectively banish stubborn hard water stains in seconds.

One cleaning fan, Rachael, demonstrated how toothpaste can instantly remove hard water stains[/caption]

The clip has since taken the internet by storm, winning her more than 8million views[/caption]

Hard water stains occur because when water containing high levels of minerals like calcium and magnesium evaporates from a surface, it leaves behind a residue of these minerals, creating a visible stain, often appearing as a white, chalky deposit.

This is primarily due to the natural path of the water through rock formations like limestone, which dissolve minerals into the water supply.

But while many may race to rummage through their cleaning cupboard, according to Rachael there is a different solution – using toothpaste.

Sharing the game-changer of a hack on her page, Rachael showed her 275k followers how just a pea-sized amount of the oral hygiene essential can spruce up the taps in practically no time.

The savvy cleaning fanatic, who learnt the trick from her mum, first applied Colgate toothpaste directly onto the tap.

Once done, she grabbed a toothbrush and started scrubbing the silver surface that was covered in stubborn stains, the now-viral video showed.

When the blue toothpaste had been scrubbed in, Rachael removes any excess with water, before going in with clean cloth to also help polish it.

The results were incredible and instantly the scratches that were once on the taps had disappeared.

”Never looked better,” she wrote in the caption of the clip which has racked up over a whopping 8million views in just one week.

Not only can you use toothpaste on your kitchen and bathroom appliances, but toothpaste can also be used to clean and polish silver jewellery.

To use toothpaste on silver jewellery, take a pea size amount and rub it into the jewellery using your finger or cotton bud, then leave it to rest for five minutes before washing off in warm water.

It will give your jewellery an instant shine and remove any tarnishing.

The reason toothpaste works so well at polishing metal is because of the mild abrasive ingredients, like baking soda, which can gently polish hard surfaces.

Social media users who viewed Rachael’s video dubbed the hack a ”game-changer” and were keen to test it out for themselves.

Cleaning hacks and tips

Here are some tips to help you clean your home like a pro:

”I will absolutely be trying this,” said one person.

Someone else chimed in: ”ohhhh wait now i wanna clean.”

”toothpaste cleans everything but my teeth,” a third joked.

”legit much better than pink stuff,” another was raving about the purse-friendly hack.

Simon Cowell brutally heckled during ‘raucous’ BGT audition in Blackpool forcing producers to halt filming

SIMON COWELL has had a fair bit of flak over the years, but it reached new levels at the Britain’s Got Talent auditions in Blackpool.

The production team found the recording of the show at the Winter Gardens was constantly interrupted by rowdy hecklers.

Among the boos and repeated insults directed at the 65-year-old judge were yells of, “You old fart” when he criticised any performers.

Although the crew were amused, it turned out to be a bit of a headache because they couldn’t have a recording filled with unpleasant insults hurled from the crowd.

Thankfully Simon knows the barbs are all part of the job.

He saw the funny side of it all because he was one of the biggest fans of taking the auditions to northern cities where crowds are more lively.

And fellow judges Amanda Holden, Bruno Tonioli and Alesha Dixon were revelling in the spectacle too.

An insider said: “Simon isn’t vain in that way and found the heckling absolutely hilarious — even when they were calling him an old fart.

“He loves having BGT in Blackpool precisely because the crowds are so raucous and enthusiastic.

“And he knows that sometimes he might be on the receiving end of their passion.

“He even encourages them to misbehave, even if sometimes the misbehaviour can cause a headache for the production team.

“Thankfully they were compensated for any hassle by a rare chance to have a good laugh at the boss’s expense.”

The show returns to ITV for its 18th series on February 22, filling the Saturday night slot vacated by The Masked Singer, the final of which airs this weekend.

I’ve a feeling we’ll be seeing a drastically edited version of what happened in Blackpool.

DAVID’S JOINING OASIS

HE is busy planning for a return to TV with co-star Matt Lucas, but David Walliams reveals there is another pressing matter – the Oasis tour.

The comic says Noel Gallagher has invited him to the band’s coveted Live ’25 – but insists it has to be their first gig on July 4 when Liam will “still have his voice”.

David told Heart radio: “I went to see them back in the day, in a nightclub when they were just starting out, about ’95.

“I saw Noel the other day and he said, ‘Come to Cardiff, because it’s the first show, and Liam will still have his voice’, so I’ve got to go to Cardiff.”

This week, the Little Britain co-stars confirmed they have been working on a number of comedy concepts.

Matt teased: “We’re kicking a few ideas around, we’ve had some meetings, and we shall see as there’s nothing to report yet.

“We’ve got two or three ideas in development.”

LINDA'S TELLY RETURN

LOOSE Women’s Linda Robson will be back on the telly five years after Birds Of A Feather finished – with a role in Channel 5’s The Good Ship Murder with Shayne Ward and Catherine Tydlesley.

Linda told me: “I’m off to film for eight days in Malta! I play a cabin steward.”

JORDAN TEASES CBB GIG

JORDAN NORTH has hinted he will appear in Celebrity Big Brother this summer.

The Capital Breakfast radio told me on the red carpet at the TV Choice Awards: “I’ve signed up for an ITV show, but can’t say what yet.

“We start filming in April.

“I’m excited, it’s intense.

“Many people don’t think I’d do it but when I got asked, I was like, ‘It’ll be a laugh’.”

Jordan also confirmed other stars will feature but would not say who.
Celebrity Big Brother is, yes, due to start filming in April, following the success of its reboot on ITV last spring.

Meanwhile Jordan, runner-up on I’m A Celeb in 2020, also said he hopes to join the recently commissioned second run of all-star spin-off I’m A Celeb . . . South Africa.

ADAM ON HIS LAST WARNING

IT airs after the watershed, but that doesn’t mean that Adam Hills and the panellists on The Last Leg are allowed to turn the air blue.

The host revealed that the popular Channel 4 series was close to being thrown off air last Friday, thanks to comedian Sophie Willan.

The Alma’s Not Normal actress laid into American President Donald Trump, by calling him a “c***y-chop”, leaving Adam apologising to viewers.

He told Chris Evans on Virgin Radio: “My problem was, I wasn’t sure if she was saying a Northern word I wasn’t aware of that is a lovely word.

“But there are some things you want to hear from your producer in your ear and, ‘You’re about to be thrown off-air’ is not one of them.”

QUIZ MIX-UP

CHANNEL 5 has made a, err, puzzling U-turn over one of its primetime quiz shows.

Puzzling, presented by TV historian Lucy Worsley, which was shelved a year ago after just one series, has been revived.

A second series of the problem-solving show could air later this year.

STACE TAKES FALL

LINDSEY COULSON’s Dame Stella Drake ruffled a few feathers with her new rules on her Waterloo Road debut last night – but soon, it will leave both her and her students in danger.

A first look at an upcoming episode of the BBC drama shows the headteacher found bruised and unconscious by Stace (Tillie Amartey) after a shocking attack.

Waterloo Road continues next Tuesday at 9pm on BBC One.
