Golf tips, free bets and latest odds for the Genesis Invitational

THE SUN

NO Tiger and no Tinseltown setting, but this week’s Genesis Invitational still oozes with star power as it moves from Los Angeles to San Diego.

The switch from Riviera in LA to Torrey Pines further down the coast is due to the impact of the wildfires that have ravaged Northern California.

Tournament host Woods has abandoned his planned return to PGA Tour action following the death of his mother, Kutilda, but he plans to make an appearance behind the scenes before the tournament is over.

Torrey Pines played host to the Farmers Insurance Open just three weeks ago. That should throw up a few useful clues, although only 29 of the 72 starters in this elite Signature event also turned out last month.

World No 1 Scottie Scheffler heads a field that also includes Rory McIlroy – an impressive winner at Pebble Beach on his last start – so the line-up is a lot stronger this time.

With 5-1 favourite Scheffler yet to show his best form after undergoing surgery on a cut hand on Christmas Day, there is a case to be made for McIlroy heading the market here. At 8-1, he certainly looks the more attractive proposition of the big two.

Genesis Invitational Golf tips

McIlroy has not played here since Torrey hosted the US Open in 2021, when he finished tied seventh. Two top fives in three previous appearances provide further evidence he has the game for this course.

But with wind and rain forecast for the first two days, and four inch rough in places, he will have to repeat the laser-like accuracy he showed at Pebble.

No-one is better than Collin Morikawa at hitting fairways and green at the moment. He finished in a share of fourth here at the 2021 US Open, and will love the tough set-up. So he has to come into the reckoning at 14-1.

Jason Day has won the Farmers twice, but was a disappointing 32nd here last month. But he played a lot better to finish just outside the top ten at Pebble, and at 45-1 he looks a decent each way shout.

Harris English was in typical gritty mode as he survived a final round 73 to win here last month despite a closing 73. But conditions will ease over the weekend this time, and it is easy to see him being swallowed up.

Sungjae Im, who finished fourth behind English, should go well again. His 33-1 quote looks fair, and another 33-1 shot, Taylor Pendrith could easily improve on his seventh place finish.

Among the outsiders, Farmers runner-up Andrew Novak – who looked the likely winner until English ground out 12 straight pars in tough conditions – is attractively priced at 125-1.

There is no DP World Tour event this week, but the LIV bandwagon moves from Saudi Arabia to Australia.

The LIV Adelaide market is headed by 13-2 shot Jon Rahm, with Tyrrell Hatton, Bryson DeChambeau, and Joaquin  Niemann all at single figure odds as well.

That shows how competitive this is, and I would rather back a player who could pop up at longer odds.

The one who makes most appeal is South African star Dean Burmester, at 25-1. He has finished seventh and third in his previous Adelaide appearances, and was tied fourth in Saudi last week.

Louis Oosthuuizen, runner-up here last year, is another 25-1 shot worth considering, while it is always worth having an Aussie on your side on their home soil. Marc Leishman fits the bill at 22-1.

And after closing with a 65 in  Saudi – the joint lowest score of the day – 50-1 chance Cameron Tringale looks best of the outsiders. He was third here a couple of years ago, and a repeat performance would bring a healthy each way return.

The seven interior design mistakes that could make you undateable this Valentine’s Day

COUPLES will be looking for fun things to do or gorgeous places to visit as they celebrate the most romantic day of the year.

But sometimes a classic dinner and movie night at home can be the perfect way to show someone how much they mean to you on Valentine’s Day.

Experts have revealed the seven decor mistakes you could be making that’s a turn-off for your date[/caption]

But did you know that your home decor style could actually be an unexpected deal-breaker that might be killing the romance?

The way you style your home says a lot about your personality – it reflects who you are and the things you pay attention to.

And you might not realise it, but it can make or break a first impression when you invite a new date over to your place.

For example, a new partner might be turned off if they walk into a home filled with lifeless houseplants that scream ‘neglect’.

Or they might think the clashing bathroom sets suggest a complete lack of attention to detail.

With the big day just around the corner, an interior expert has shared the home decor blunders that could send your date running for the hills.

Zara O’Hare, an expert at Land of Rugs, revealed that there are seven common mistakes that could be a major turn-off.

So before you invite a new date over to your home, you might want to make sure you’re not committing any of these common decor faux pas.

1. Bare walls

One of the most common home decor choices that could send your date running for the hills is having bare walls.

This is because it says nothing about you or about the type of person you are and can make your home feel lifeless.

It could also give off the impression that you either lack personality or don’t care enough to make your space inviting.

Zara suggests: “Instead, use your walls as a canvas to showcase your interests.

“Whether it’s framed vinyl records, travel photos, movie posters, or abstract artwork, injecting a bit of ‘you’ into your decor will not only make your space more visually appealing but also spark interesting conversation”.

2. Ignoring the details

You might think that having mismatched furniture and chaotic decor could be considered quirky.

However, Zara said this is not likely to be how your date thinks it looks.

She revealed that this can make a space feel disorganised and disjointed, which is hardly the vibe you want to give off on a romantic evening.

She explains: “While there’s no need for a perfectly curated, Pinterest-worthy aesthetic, taking the time to coordinate small details, such as matching bathroom sets or stylish storage solutions, can give the impression that you’re thoughtful and pay attention to the little things (which, let’s be honest, is a pretty attractive trait).”

It’s also a big mistake not to have a full-length mirror in your home[/caption]

3. No full-length mirror? Big mistake

You might not realise it, but having a full-length mirror in your home can actually be seen as essential.

Not only is it a practical necessity, but it also speaks volumes about your personality.

It suggests that you take pride in your appearance and put effort into presenting yourself well.

The expert says: “If your date notices you don’t own one, they might start wondering whether you even checked your outfit before heading out the door.

“If space is an issue, consider an over-the-door mirror or a sleek wall-mounted option to make sure you’re always looking your best before stepping out.”

Homeowners should be careful if their living room doubles as a home office[/caption]

4. Your living room doubling as an office

So many of us are working from home now after Covid, and it’s easy to let the boundaries between work and personal life blur.

And since most of us don’t have many spare rooms to turn into a home office, it’s common that we end up working from our living rooms.

But if your date sees the space overrun with laptops, cables, and office chairs, they might assume you struggle to switch off.

Zara suggests: “If you don’t have a separate home office, make an effort to pack away your work essentials when the day is done.

“A stylish storage box or room divider can help create a clearer distinction between work and relaxation, ensuring your home feels inviting rather than resembling a 24/7 workspace.”

5. Harsh or unflattering lighting

Lighting can make or break the ambience of your home, experts have revealed.

Bright overhead lights can feel clinical and unwelcoming, while overly dim lighting might make your date feel like they’ve stepped into a gloomy basement.

She explained: “Opt for warm, soft lighting with layered sources such as floor lamps, fairy lights, or candles to create a cosy and inviting atmosphere.

‘A well-lit space with thoughtful lighting choices shows that you understand how to set the mood, whether for romance or relaxation.”

Having too much clutter is also a bad sign[/caption]

6. An overwhelming amount of clutter

Every home has an element of clutter.

It’s almost impossible for a lived-in home to be completely devoid of all clutter in every room.

However, if your space is drowning in clutter, it can be a major turn-off.

This includes having piles of laundry, unwashed dishes, or an avalanche of random items on every surface.

This is because it can make your space feel stressful rather than welcoming.

Zara explains: “A quick declutter before your date arrives can work wonders.

“Hide the unnecessary mess in stylish storage solutions or simply ensure that key areas like the living room and bathroom are neat and tidy.

“A clean and organised space suggests you have your life together and care about making a good impression.”

Trends interior designers hate

IF you want to ensure that your home looks glam, here are the trends that interior designers can't stand.

NO YELLOW: According to Bilal Rehman, yellow paint in a bedroom is a big no no.

He said: “If you want everyone to know you’re a horse girl then yellow is perfect for you.”

SIGN OFF: Kelly Hoppen shared her honest thoughts on Live, Love, Laugh signs.

The interior pro explained: “Another gripe of mine – Live, Laugh, Love – those kinds of wooden things that sit on book shelves and floating shelves, that’s so 10, 12, 15 years ago.”

NO GREY YAY: Julie Provenzano explained that grey interiors have been overdone.

She stressed: “We took a good thing and we overdid it to the point that it now feels copy, paste, basic.”

7. Houseplants that have seen better days

Homes that have some houseplants can be a green flag when you have a date over.

It signals that you’re nurturing, responsible, and capable of looking after something other than yourself.

However, if you start to neglect them or they start looking shabby, then this can have the opposite effect.

The experts say: “A collection of dried-out, wilting plants could give the impression that you struggle with commitment or worse, that you simply don’t care.

“If keeping plants alive isn’t your forte, opt for realistic faux greenery to add warmth to your space.

“Or at the very least, dispose of any lifeless leaves before your date arrives.”

‘Week ruined already’ – Cheltenham punters suffer as five big horses are scratched from Festival

ANTE-POST punters have endured a tough few days when it comes to the Cheltenham Festival.

Those with fancy prices on Arkle odds-on shot Sir Gino got nightmare news when Nicky Henderson’s star was ruled out through injury.

Ile Atlantique won’t be headed to the Cheltenham Festival[/caption]

The latest round of scratches came through today and more ante-post slips will have gone into the bin thanks to these five coming out.

ILE ATLANTIQUE (Arkle Chase)

Slashed into 8-1 for the Arkle after his smooth win at Naas in January, those on at that price were already wincing when he was tailed off behind Majborough at Leopardstown at the Dublin Racing Festival.

The warning light was on at that point and with no other entries at the Festival, it’s likely we’ll see him at either Aintree or Punchestown.

IMPAIRE ET PASSE (Arkle Chase, Brown Advisory)

Another who will miss Cheltenham altogether is Impaire Et Passe, who won the 2023 Ballymore doing handstands.

He was a Grade 1 winner at Limerick over Christmas, but his heavy defeat behind Ballyburn at the Dublin Racing Festival clearly made up Mullins mind about future plans.

Having won the Liverpool Hurdle at Aintree last year, it’s fair to assume he may end up in a Grade 1 novice there instead.

MISTERGIF (Arkle Chase)

Beating Tullyhill on his second chase start, Mistergif looked set for the Arkle with a decent each-way chance.

That is no longer the case, but he’s another who could be perfect for Aintree or Punchestown later down the line.

IMPERVIOUS (Mares Chase)

Perhaps the biggest blow of all, Impervious was a big fancy for a wide-open Mares Chase.

She’s been absent since winning both the Mares Chase in 2023 and the same race at Punchestown a month later.

And it looks like the wait will go on, with Colm Murphy delivering the devastating scratching.

One punter said: “No Impervious in the Mares Chase. Week ruined already.”

KAID D’AUTHIE (Supreme)

Although not the biggest surprise, it’s interesting to note that Kaid D’Authie came out of the Supreme.

He was an impressive winner over 2m4f on first completed start but seemed to hate the drop back to 2m at the Dublin Racing Festival.

We can expect much better from him next time out, so watch his entries carefully.

Sabrina Carpenter rocks red see-through lingerie for Vogue pin-up photoshoot but insists ‘I dress like a little boy’

SHOWING off her sensational figure and sex appeal, Sabrina Carpenter can be seen posing up a storm for Vogue Magazine this month.

Rocking some red see-through lingerie for the fashion magazine in a pin-up-style photoshoot, Sabrina, 25, insisted she dresses like a boy despite her sensual image.

Rocking lace lingerie, Sabrina looked incredible in the snaps[/caption]

In the cover snap, Sabrina looked almost unrecognizable as she wore a custom Dolce and Gabbana lingerie dress.

The baby blue hued piece had corset-style lace up detailing on each side, and up the center.

With suspender belts either side, Sabrina actually ditched stockings but still rocked the sultry look.

Sabrina wore a platinum, almost gray, wig in a short style reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe and Madonna.

In another snap from the shoot, Sabrina rocked a lemon dress made from a silky fabric, complete with a feather boa in the same hue.

Accessorizing with black pointed pumps, Sabrina channeled old Hollywood glamor for the occasion as she posed on a baby pink chair.

Another photo of Sabrina from the racy shoot sees her laying on a red surface in front of a red wall.

In keeping with the red theme, Sabrina wore a lace lingerie-style dress with cut out detailing.

She completed the look with some red heels that had feathers on the front of them.

OLD HOLLYWOOD GLAMOR

In all of the photos, Sabrina rocked a muted yet glamorous makeup look comprising of a clear complexion, bold brows and pinky-nude lip.

Sabrina also rocked a cat eye on her eye lids to finish off the timeless look.

Other snaps from the shoot see Sabrina rocking a pink sequinned dress while writhing on the floor, and some black-and-white close-up snaps.

Speaking about her fashion choices and what she wears when she’s not on-stage, Sabrina told the magazine: “I dress like a little boy for most of the day, if I’m trying to hide.

“They [her fans] don’t even know it’s me and I’ll be standing right behind them.”

Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan relationship timeline

Barry and Sabrina first sparked dating rumors in December 2023

They were first spotted having a dinner date at a restaurant in Los Angeles in December 2023.

Since then, Sabrina and Barry have been repeatedly documented going on dates and nights together.

In March 2024, Barry was seen cheering on Sabrina during her set when she opened for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Singapore.

After her set, Sabrina was seen running off stage and into Barry’s arms in the crowd.

The two were also seen standing shoulder-to-shoulder when Taylor took to the stage.

A month later, Barry was spotted supporting Sabrina once more during her Coachella set.

FANS REACT

Reacting to her new Vogue front cover, fans went wild on social media.

One person on X said: “Oh my god, she just channeled Marilyn Monroe!”

Another added: “Couldn’t recognize her at first.”

“This is Madonna coded yet still completely Sabrina – I freaking love it,” penned a third.

And a fourth said: “That’s totally her in a diffrent look and still stunning.”

GRAMMY WINNER

This comes after Sabrina nabbed two gongs at the Grammys.

The blond beauty scooped Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal album at the coveted ceremony.

She had been nominated for six awards, including Best New Artist (which she lost to Chappell Roan) and Album Of The Year (which she lost to Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter).

As well as winning two awards on the night, she also took to the stage for renditions of her hits Espresso and Please Please Please.

Meghan Markle wants revenge on Trump after cruel jibe – it was a hurtful thing to say.. even if he’s right, expert slams

MEGHAN Markle could seek revenge after Donald Trump slammed her as “terrible”, an expert has warned.

Ingrid Seward described the US President’s remarks about the duchess as “incredibly hurtful”, despite admitting many would agree with him.

US President Donald Trump’s remarks have been described as ‘hurtful’[/caption]

It comes as Meghan and husband Prince Harry have been snapped in attendance at the Invictus Games in Vancouver this week – with the duchess accused of show stealing.

Trump – who returned to the White House last month – ruled out deporting Prince Harry as he believes “he’s got enough problems with his wife”.

Harry’s immigration status is the subject of litigation.

The Heritage Foundation allege he may have a hidden past illegal drug use that would usually disqualify someone from obtaining a US visa.

Meghan and Harry moved to California after stepping down as working royals in 2020.

The president told The New York Post, however, that he had no intention of chucking Harry out the country – because he’s got enough on his plate with Meghan.

Slamming the Duchess of Sussex, Trump said: “I don’t want to do that.

“I’ll leave him alone. He’s got enough problems with his wife. She’s terrible.”

Speaking to The Sun, royal author Ms Seward admitted: “I think that a huge number of people were probably smirking and agreeing with Donald Trump.”

She explained that the Sussexes “operate” from California, which is “very Democratic”, meaning Republican Trump’s remarks will have had an extra sting.

“It was an incredibly hurtful thing to say, terrible,” she continued.

“I know what he meant and we possibly all agree with him, but to say it publicly like that is very hurtful.

“I wonder if Meghan and Harry might have some come back for that, legally.”

Ms Seward added: “Hopefully, they don’t bother and take it on the chin or make it a joke.

“But it was hurtful, but for those of us who aren’t so crazy about Meghan, it was funny. But it was a bit sad, I think.”

Ms Seward also described her “interferences” in Vancouver as simply not needed, considering the tournament is founder Harry’s event.

She said: “I thought it was unnecessary of Meghan to interfere with what is essentially Harry’s baby. She knows that.

“He really doesn’t need her. When Harry first launched the Invictus Games in London, he was launching it in front of his dad, his stepmum, and his brother.

“He doesn’t need Meghan there to introduce him. I thought it was really wrong and kind of detracted from what he was trying to do.”

MEGHAN’S AVERSION TO TRUMP

Meghan has not hid her aversion for Trump in the past, having dubbed him “divisive” and “misogynistic”.

The president also called Harry “whipped,” and believes the Prince is “being led around by the nose”.

Trump went on to praise Harry’s estranged brother Prince William, who he held a private meeting with in Paris in December during the reopening ceremony of the Notre-Dame Cathedral.

The Duke of Sussex’s US visa application fight returned to court last week for the first time since Trump returned to power.

US judge Carl Nichols previously ruled in September last year that the public did not have strong interest in the sharing of the prince’s immigration records.

Judge Nichols agreed to re-open the case and ordered lawyers for all parties to appear in court for a “motion for relief from judgement” hearing in the US capital last Wednesday.

The Sun has approached the Sussexes’ representative for comment.

Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio investigated in child pornography case and could face up to five years in prison

REAL MADRID star Raul Asencio is set to face trial in a child pornography case.

The defender is accused of disseminating images and a video of a minor and will stand trial in the Canary Islands.

Three former Real Madrid reserve players are involved and claimed to have taken and recorded the content.

Asencio, 21, is not deemed responsible for taking the images but he had access to them and is alleged to passed them onto others.

It is claimed the players involved lied when they told the girls involved that the material had been deleted.

Asencio reportedly requested to be left out of the trial but that has been denied by the court and if found guilty of disseminating child pornography he could be sentenced up to five years in prison.

Three former Real players – Ferran Ruiz, 21, Juan Rodriguez, 22, and Andres Garcia, 21 – were arrested in September 2023, with Asencio called to give testimony as a witness.

After speaking to police Asencio became part of the investigation.

A statement from Real Madrid at the time read: “Real Madrid wishes to announce that it has learned that a Castilla player and three Real Madrid C players have made statements to the Civil Guard in relation to a complaint about the alleged broadcasting of a private video via WhatsApp.

“When the club has detailed knowledge of the facts, we will take the appropriate measures.”

A statement from the High Court of Justice of Gran Canaria in November read: “The judge is investigating four footballers linked to Real Madrid as alleged perpetrators of crimes of disclosure of secrets and dissemination of pornography.”

Ascencio is in line to start against Liverpool at Anfield with Real facing a defensive injury crisis.

They are without experienced stars Antonio Rudiger, Eder Militao and David Alaba.
