Ultra-rare 70s Ferrari with just 6,000 miles on clock and 188mph top speed goes on auction – it could be yours for £170k

A VINTAGE Ferrari could be yours in a matter of weeks as the red 1970s sports car goes to auction.

With only one owner and less than 6,000 miles on the clock, the 1977 Ferrari 512 BB is set to be snapped up quickly.

It is expected to fetch up to £170,000[/caption]

The iconic red wide body Italian sports car is one of just 101 right-hand drive versions supplied to the UK.

And this one could be the rarest of them all after being uprated with wider wheels, having engine modifications and reshaped bodywork supplied by Maranello Concessionaires.

Vince Mezzullo, an employee from the dealer became friends with the owner and maintained the vehicle.

The sleek road car is finished in the classic Ferrari colour of Rosso Chiaro with black hide and carpets.

Under the hood is an impressive 5 litre version of the 12-cylinder boxer.

The motor has a hair-raising top speed of 188mph.

It is said to be inspired by the factory sanctioned 512 BB Competizione cars which were campaigned by Charles Pozzi and NART at the 1978 Le Mans 24-hours.

The Ferrari will be going on sale on April 9 at 9am.

H&H Classics will be running the auction at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford, in Cambridgeshire.

John Markey, motorcar specialist at H&H Classics, said: “This Ferrari ‘Wide Body’ was commissioned by a serial Ferrari owner and while other Ferrari’s came and went, and not to mention other high-performance machines, this Prancing Horse always remained in his collection as a firm favourite.

“This ‘Wide Body’ enjoys a host of bespoke cosmetic and mechanical enhancements and has been in ownership of the Morello family from new.

“It is a unique BB and has ultra-low mileage, making it worthy of close inspection.”

The rare Ferrari is expected to sell for between £150,000 and £170,000.

But of course, it is not the only vintage vehicle that will be under the gavel at Duxford Airfield.

H&H will also be overseeing the sales of a 1924 Rolls-Royce Springfield, a 1966 TVR Griffith, a 1973 Lamborghini Espada, and many others.

The more modern offerings include a 1999 Lotus Elise 111S, a 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo, a 2010 Ford Focus RS, and a 2000 Subaru Impreza P1.

Meanwhile, a British classic from the swinging 60s is set to be auctioned off in Milan, Italy.

The highly coveted 1965 DB Short-Chassis Volante could be yours for a staggering £600,000 as the sleek vintage Aston Martin goes on sale.

It is the rarest series production convertible Aston Martin ever made, being one of just 37.

RM Sotheby’s will be running an auction for the highly-sought after vehicle.

Images from the showroom show that this particular model is in classic British racing green with beige leather interiors and a convertible roof.

RM Sotheby’s will be hosting the auction in Milan where it is expected to fetch between £550,000 and £600,000.

Mercedes reveals its new luxury EV with ‘superscreen’ passengers can play video games or watch Netflix on while on move

MERCEDES has revealed its brand new luxury EV that comes with a “superscreen” that passengers can play video games or watch Netflix on.

The German carmaker launched its new CLA on Thursday which kickstarts a whole family of cars for the iconic company.

The CLA will come with two electric powertrain options: the rear-drive “250+” as well as the faster, all-wheel-drive “350+”.

800-volt architecture is the backbone of the motor and, using an 85kWh battery, it can deliver a whopping 492 miles of range in the 250 version.

If you opt for the faster 350, the range is reduced slightly to 479 miles.

Rapid charging capabilities mean you can take a quick 10-minute coffee break at a 350kW DC fast charger and gain more than 200 miles of travel, reports Autocar.

An extra 12 minutes on top of that will give you a battery that’s 80 per cent full.

The 350 produces 349bhp and can go from 0-62mph in just 4.9 seconds, while the 250 produces 268bhp and gets you to 62mph in around 6.7 seconds.

Both are limited to 130mph and employ Mercedes’ new two-speed automatic gearbox.

In this state-of-the-art transmission, the first gear is designed specifically for steady acceleration in urban areas, while the second helps deliver power at higher speeds, making it perfect for motorway cruising.

There are also up to four levels of regenerative braking available, and you get a comfort-oriented suspension setup as standard.

It is designed to help improve steering response and reduce road noise from the EV as a result.

Inside, the CLA takes on a sportier character and offers luxury material choices for its furnishings.

Central to the motor is the latest iteration of the Mercedes Superscreen, which has up to three digital displays spread across the front dashboard.

These include a 10.25in one for the driver’s instruments, a 14.6in centrally-placed infotainment one, and an optional 14in screen for the passenger seat.

If you opt for all three, the screen ends up spanning the entire width of the front of the car.

On here, passengers can play video games such as Fortnite while on the move or even stream shows and films via Netflix or other services.

This is all thanks to Mercedes’ latest MB.OS operating system, which also features the newest version of the German automaker’s virtual assistant.

Utilising a range of artificial intelligence functions including ChatGPT, the assistant provides more accurate answers to questions than before and has a new short-term memory function.

In a strange futuristic twist, it also “recognises” emotions and responds accordingly, changing colours to reflect your mood.

CLA LINEUP TO EXPAND LATER THIS YEAR

If you don’t opt for the Superscreen, the passenger screen will be replaced with a glass LED-backlit panel which matches the interior lighting of the motor.

Other bonus treats include a panoramic roof as standard, a wireless phone charging cable, four additional USB slots, and an optional 850-watt Burmester surround sound system.

While there’s only 405 litres of boot space, 55 litres less than the old CLA, the EV comes with a hidden trunk under the front hood that adds another whopping 101 litres of storage space.

Mercedes is also planning to diversify the CLA lineup towards the end of this year, first by introducing a smaller 58kWh battery version in addition to a trio of 48-volt hybrids.

The hybrids will come with a 1.5L turbocharged four-pot, a miniscule 1.3kWh battery, and an eight-speed DCT gearbox.

They will be good for EV-only travel up to a speed of 62mph, and are offered with either all-wheel-drive or just front-wheel-drive.

Royal Mint unveil John Lennon coin to mark what would have been his 85th birthday

MONEY couldn’t buy him love — but John Lennon still looks like he is coining it in.

The singer is going from Penny Lane to quids in as he is immortalised in a collectable coin.

The Give Peace A Chance singer, who was married to artist Yoko Ono, 92, until his death in 1980, is pictured on the coin alongside the title of his 1971 single Imagine as part of The Royal Mint’s Music Legends series.

It is being released to coincide with what would have been The Beatles star’s 85th birthday.

On December 8, 1980, Lennon was shot and killed by a fan at his residence in Manhattan, New York.

Lennon had just returned from Record Plant Studio with his wife Yoko Ono.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Roosevelt Hospital, after getting four major gunshot wounds.

A memorial close to where he was shot, called Strawberry Fields, is located in Central Park.

Mark David Chapman pleaded guilty to the murder of Lennon and was sentenced to 20 years to life imprisonment.

He has remained in prison ever since, having been denied parole ten times due to campaigns against his release after he became eligible in 2000.

Chapman, a Beatles fan who had idolised Lennon, allegedly started planning to kill him three months before he committed the murder.

He turned against Lennon after making his religious conversion, and was angry about Lennon’s well-publicised 1966 comment that Beatles were “more popular than Jesus.”

Major supermarket to start price war at pumps by slashing cost of petrol and diesel

A PRICE war is kicking off at filling stations around the country.

Petrol and diesel will be 4p a litre cheaper at Asda when its forecourts open today.

And there are hopes fuel prices will drop further on the back of falling oil prices, in a welcome break for families who are facing soaring water, energy and council tax bills next month.

The price cut by Asda is a major gear-change for the troubled supermarket following the return of Allan Leighton as executive chairman in November.

Industry experts believe rival supermarkets will rush to match its offer.

Mr Leighton said: “At Asda, it’s in our DNA to give hard-working customers the best value we can.”

Last year, MPs accused the supermarket of ripping off drivers by boosting its fuel profits.

Asda says it will cut the price of petrol to an average of 131.9p a litre and diesel to 137p.

The Sun’s Keep It Down campaign has kept fuel duty frozen for over a decade.

Meanwhile the RAC said last night that if retailers passed on the full savings from falling oil prices, pump prices should drop by 6p a litre for petrol and 3p for diesel.

New Cadbury Dairy Milk bar to launch in UK supermarkets for first time in DAYS

A NEW Cadbury dairy milk bar will launch in UK supermarkets for the first time in days.

Chocoholics will be delighted to hear that its collaboration with Biscoff will be landing on shelves as soon as Saturday, March 15.

Cadbury Dairy Milk Biscoff chocolate bar.
A first look at the bar has been released.

The bar will feature Cadbury Dairy Milk with pieces of caramelized shortbread Biscoff pieces.

Fans have been eagerly waiting for a release date since the summer.

Sainsbury’s will be the first supermarket to stock the chocolate, with it landing in supermarkets on Saturday.

Morrisons will begin stocking the snack from Wednesday March 19 and Tesco shoppers will be able to get their hands on it from March 25.

Finally, Asda shoppers can try the chocolate from March 27.

Prices will start from £1.69 for a 95g bar and a larger 105g bar will cost £2.

It’s worth noting that retailers are free to set their own prices, so they may vary from shop to shop.

Connor Gould, Brand Manager at Cadbury says “This might be the hardest secret we have had to keep…

“We know people love the irresistible smoothness of Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate and the satisfying crunch of Biscoff, so this collaboration was something that we were excited to announce to both chocolate and biscuit lovers alike.”

It’s a match made in chocolatey-biscuit heaven, proving to be a truly unique and delectable experience for all! We can’t wait to hear what everyone thinks of it.”

A previous image of the chocolate bar shared on social media caused a stir, with one user joking they would “step over a corpse to have a bite”.

Another said: “Now this is going to cause me issues! I cannot resist!.”

A third person said the chocolate collab was “worth breaking the diet for.”

While a fourth simply said they “needed this” in their life.

OTHER CADBURY BISCUIT COLLABS

It’s not the first time that Cadbury has launched a partnership with a popular biscuit brand.

The bar combined Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate with pieces of the chocolate biscuit.

The group also looked to bring sweet and savoury flavours together when it launched a chocolate bar with Ritz crackers back in 2014.

The snack comprised four pieces of Cadbury Dairy Milk sandwiched between small rectangles of Ritz biscuits.

However, these treats are a rare find on supermarket shelves today.

The upcoming release of the new Biscoff bar comes as Cadbury has revealed what new eggs are set to land on supermarket shelves this Easter.

For chocoholics planning their Easter haul, Cadbury’s 2024 line-up promises a mix of exciting new launches and much-loved classics.

Among the fresh arrivals is the Easter Favourites Pouch – stuffed with Mini Eggs, Creme Eggs, and Mini Dairy Milk Eggs.

Ideal for sharing or an Easter egg hunt, the 335g pouch is priced at £7.45 and will be available in stores nationwide.

How to save money on chocolate

We all love a bit of chocolate from now and then, but you don't have to break the bank buying your favourite bar.

Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how to cut costs…

Go own brand – if you’re not too fussed about flavour and just want to supplant your chocolate cravings, you’ll save by going for the supermarket’s own brand bars.

Shop around – if you’ve spotted your favourite variety at the supermarket, make sure you check if it’s cheaper elsewhere.

Websites like Trolley.co.uk let you compare prices on products across all the major chains to see if you’re getting the best deal.

Look out for yellow stickers – supermarket staff put yellow, and sometimes orange and red, stickers on to products to show they’ve been reduced.

They usually do this if the product is coming to the end of its best-before date or the packaging is slightly damaged.

Buy bigger bars – most of the time, but not always, chocolate is cheaper per 100g the larger the bar.

So if you’ve got the appetite, and you were going to buy a hefty amount of chocolate anyway, you might as well go bigger.

High street giant crowned best for hot cross buns in blind taste test beating Aldi and Lidl

A HIGH street giant’s hot cross buns have been crowned the best in a taste test, beating Aldi and Lidl to top spot.

Which? carried out a blind taste test of eight major supermarket’s buns, with M&S’s voted the winner.

Collage of various packages of hot cross buns.
Which? carried out a blind taste test of supermarket hot cross buns ahead of Easter

The panel was asked to rate each in terms of flavour, aroma, appearance and texture.

And the group of tasters hired by the consumer website gave the retailer’s luxury fruited hot cross buns an overall score of 73%.

The pack of four, £2, were deemed fruity and well-spiced, with three quarters impressed by the buns’ moist texture.

They are however the joint most expensive out of the eight tested.

Coming in second was Co-op‘s Irresistible richly fruited luxury hot cross buns with a 69% score, costing £2 for a pack of four.

Which? tasters loved the enticing aroma and moistness of these buns.

They were also some of the best-rated in terms of sweetness and spice level, with the majority saying they had a well-balanced flavour.

They’re also lower in sugar content compared to most of the other supermarket options included in the test.

In third place came Aldi’s Specially Selected luxury fruited hot cross buns with a score of 66%, priced at £1.39 for a pack of four.

The budget-friendly option impressed the group of tasters and also earned a Which? Great Value recommendation.

The panel found they were not as moist as some of the others tested, with over 40% finding them too dry.

However, they ranked well on flavour and appearance and the majority thought they had an ample amount of fruit inside.

Upmarket supermarket Waitrose‘s Richly Fruited hot cross buns scored 66%, putting them in joint third position. The pack of four costs £1.95.

Most Which? testers were satisfied with the amount of fruit and soft texture of the buns, but half said the flavour was lacking slightly.

How did the other supermarkets fare?

Sainsbury’s came fifth in the taste test, with a slightly lower 65% score for its Taste the Difference fruity hot cross buns. A four-pack sets you back £1.80.

The panel of tasters rated them fairly well overall, saying they contained a good amount of fruit.

But more than a third found them lacking in spice and sweetness.

Next was Asda, whose Exceptional extra fruity hot cross buns were given a 64% overall score.

Most tasters enjoyed the moist texture of the buns but half said the spice was too weak.

Shoppers can pick up a pack of four for £1.80.

Tesco‘s Finest Extra fruity hot cross buns scored the same as Asda, with a 64% rating, costing £1.80 per four-pack.

The panel said they weren’t bad overall but almost half thought they were not moist enough.

Morrisons‘s The Best extra fruity hot cross buns came bottom of the pack with a 61% score.

Half said the spice flavour was too weak and 45% said they were too dry. Packs of four cost £1.80.

Natalie Hitchins, Which? head of home products and services, said: “Whether you opt for a classic lightly toasted hot cross bun with a generous amount of butter or you’re a more adventurous type who plans to eat hot cross bun bacon butties this Easter, our taste tests reveal which supermarket buns are worth snapping up.

“Fruity, moist and well-spiced, M&S hot cross buns were rated a cut above most other supermarkets but those looking for a budget-friendly bun could do worse than head to Aldi where both flavour and appearance were also well liked.”

It comes after Which? tasters crowned Morrisons’s thick cut Seville Orange marmalade the winner in a taste test of breakfast spreads.
