Civerinos among the 19 best pizza joints in the world

A student-favourite spot was voted as the 13th best pizzeria in the world by Time Out magazine and we can see why.

With pizza from Naples and New York making the list, Edinburgh’s own Civerino’s Slice managed to place 13th, above joints from Miami, Hong Kong and Beunos Aires.

Time Out praised the restaurant for its “chewy crusts, coal-fired bases, sweet-but-tangy marinara sauce and carefully curated toppings.”

The Tab spoke to the owner of the chain which now has four restaurants in Edinburgh and one in Glasgow. Michele told us that: “It has not fully sunk in yet but it’s really special that our team of legends across all the sites are now recognised as some of the best pizza in the game.”

It really is the staff that make Civerinos the place it is, chef Sam says that “it’s definitely the people that make the place. The community is really important and we wouldn’t be where we are without them.”

With slices for only £5, Civerinos is a student hot-spot, with the Forrest Road slice bar being right next to Edinburgh Uni campus and a summer haunt for meadows picnic goers. The site also offers student discounts, offering some respite for cash-strapped students as semester two’s exam season draws near and those library sessions start to get longer.

Their location at Portobello beach is also a famous destination for locals and tourists alike, and their new spot in Stockbridge is undoubtedly going to be a hit, whether you’re looking for a slice on the go or an old-school sit-down vibe, Civ’s has it all.

If you’re feeling adventurous you could even head to their Glasgow location which Time Out praised for having the only New Haven style pizzas in Scotland.

The restaurant is very grateful for their accolades and stated on their instagram that their “full of gratitude and grated mozzerella.” and thanked Time Out for “giving us our flowers”, we wouldn’t be suprised if more awards start coming in soon.
