A Coronation Street teenager was left devastated in recent scenes when he was congratulated for killing Mason Radcliffe.

Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) joined the small crowd of mourners for Mason’s funeral in tonight’s episode, as the teenager was laid to rest.

Throughout his life, Mason had tormented a lot of people, including Liam Connor (Charlie Wrenshall), as the school bully.

However, the final weeks of his life saw him really trying to turn his life around, and make amends with those he had hurt.

Unfortunately, his life was cut short when he was attacked by his brothers after handing them into the police.

When Dylan brought a zombie knife into the fight, Logan Radcliffe (Harry Lowbridge) ended up stabbing him.

Knife crime – the stats

England and Wales has seen an 80% increase in knife crime in the last 10 years. According to a study compiled up to June 2024, there have been 50,973 police-recorded offences involving a knife or sharp instrument.

The same study highlights that there have been 225 murders involving a knife or sharp instrument in England and Wales in the 12 months to June 2024, 78 of the victims were aged under 25, and 10 of the victims were aged under 16.

Kate Brooks, producer of Coronation Street, said: ‘It’s vitally important to shine a light on this topic, and really show the impact knife crime has on not only the victim and their loved ones, but also the wider community.

‘With the alarming statistics, we want to do anything we can as a show to combat this violent endemic. After watching this harrowing, but important story unfold, if one person thinks twice about bringing a knife to a fight, then we’ve achieved our aim to raise awareness.’

The Ben Kinsella Trust has been working closely with the show on the storyline. You can find more information and support on knife crime by visiting their website

At Mason’s wake, Dylan and Liam discussed being on the receiving end of Mason’s bullying, with Dylan asking Liam if he thought he would have been the one to end up dead, after Mason threatened him with a knife.

Liam pointed out that half the school felt that way because of Mason’s bullying, and Dylan ashamedly admitted that someone had actually come up to him and congratulated him on his role in Mason’s death.

Later, Dylan fell into conversation with Mason’s former girlfriend Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin), and admitted that Mason’s Facebook page had had some cruel comments from people who hadn’t even known him.

Betsy was sympathetic, explaining that the same thing had happened when her mum died.

As Dylan pointed out that violence was all Mason had ever known, Betsy mourned the fact that he’d never stood a chance at turning his life around and escaping his brothers.

However, with Logan now in custody, will Mason get justice?
