Coronation Street and Waterloo Road star Kym Marsh has opened up about a mugging ordeal that left her ‘shaken up’.

The actress, best known to soap fans as Corrie’s Michelle Connor, explained how her phone was snatched from her hand during a segment on BBC Morning Live, which she co-hosts.

‘I was walking down this road, it was about 9.30 at night, so it was dark but there were still people around,’ she recalled.

‘The mistake I made was that I pulled my phone out of my pocket to send a text, and within seconds it was swiped from my hand.’

She went on to explain the emotional effects the mugging had on her, revealing that she felt ‘really vulnerable’ and ‘shaken’.

‘I immediately wanted to get some help but, of course, it’s not so easy when you don’t have your phone,’ she added.

She also explained that, as well as her personal data being at risk, she had lost important messages.

‘You do feel like you’ve made a mistake by [pulling out your phone]. It’s so annoying.

‘The thing for me is that not only is everything on everyone’s phones these days, all your important information, but it was the emotional stuff.

‘I’ve now lost messages that my dad sent me and things I can never get back. It’s that emotional side of it as well.’

Kym sadly lost her dad, David, to prostate cancer last year.

Following his diagnosis in 2021, Dave and Kym often spoke out about the condition, and the importance of getting check ups.

‘It is with immense sadness that we confirm the passing of David Marsh,’ a spokesperson for the actress announced at the time of his death.

‘A much-loved husband, dad, grandad, great grandad, and friend to many, David passed away peacefully at home on Friday surrounded by his family.

‘We are truly heartbroken and ask for privacy at this incredibly difficult time.’

As well as presenting Morning Live, Kym also stars in BBC school drama Waterloo Road as parent and canteen manager Nicky Walters.

The most recent series of the show has seen her battling to get daughter Tonya Walters (Summer Bird) an endometriosis diagnosis after ongoing gynaecological issues.

‘With something like endometriosis, young girls in particular often aren’t listened to by GP’s and are often dismissed, and dismissed by their family members,’ Kym previously told Metro and other publications.

‘A lot of girls are going through that and struggle to get that diagnosis. They reach rock bottom before something actually happens.’

Prior to her Waterloo Road role, Kym played Michelle Connor in Coronation Street for nearly 14 years.

During her tenure on the cobbles, Michelle was involved in some huge storylines, including discovering her son had been swapped at birth, suffering a devastating late miscarriage and being shot at her own wedding.
