Snow Patrol icon Johnny McDaid has been rushed to hospital after injuring his hand in a dramatic fall.

This is actually the Chasing Cars hitmaker’s second hand surgery on this tour after he trapped his other hand in a door but continued to perform.

His bandmate Gary Lightbody has now confirmed Johnny, 48, ‘smashed his knuckles’ while in Belfast, forcing him to head to the hospital.

Johnny, who has been dating Friends legend Courteney Cox since 2013, even played Friday night’s gig with two broken fingers like a true rockstar.

Speaking to RTE, Gary, 48, revealed the singer had hurt his hand right at the start of the tour on the train from Switzerland to Frankfurt.

He said: ‘We did the whole European tour on the train, it was really fun – except for this thing which happened, where Johnny got his hand caught in a door.

‘And it wrecked his hand. He ended up getting surgery on his hand. Never missed a show.’

Seemingly, multi-instrumentalist Johnny is a little accident-prone as he has now ended up in surgery for the other hand.

Gary continued: ‘The Thursday night in Belfast, at midnight or so, he fell and wrecked his other hand – smashed his knuckles on his other hand.

‘When we came in for sound check on Friday, he couldn’t move the fingers on his right hand. And he still played the show on Friday night.

‘He has just today (Sunday) gone to get surgery on his hand. It’s insane. He had two broken on Friday’s show – and he played the gig.’

The Just Say Yes singer praised his bandmate as ‘unbelievable’ and added: ‘He’s made of different stuff from the rest of us.’

Snow Patrol is now a trio after drummer Jonny Quinn and bassist Paul Wilson’s departures in September 2023.

The 00s group has a spat of festivals this summer, which Johnny will hopefully be fully recovered for.

This includes Glasgow’s TRNSMT Festival, Latitude in Suffolk, and a spot on the Glastonbury lineup on Sunday, June 29.

In 2019, the band were forced to pull out of Glastonbury due to Johnny having a ‘serious problem’ with his neck.

At the time, a statement revealed that ‘after consulting with some top neurosurgeons’ the only course of action was ‘immediate surgery’.

Snow Patrol continued: ‘We are all of course worried about our brother Johnny. He is a force of nature and a giant light in our lives on stage and off and we of course will give him all the time and support he needs to recover.

‘Johnny has been incredible in the wake of this news and has remained calm at a time when a lot of people might freak out.’

He has since made a full recovery, with Courteney at the time sharing she was ‘taking care of [her] man’ in a sweet update.

The pair have been together since 2013 and were briefly engaged before calling it off but remaining as a couple.

The Scream star previously told Ellen DeGeneres: ‘He’s not my fiance. We broke off our engagement, and he moved to England, then we got back together, and it’s actually better than it was before.

‘Everything’s better. Not because he’s in London — although I think the distance after that breakup, we were apart for six months, that really showed us a lot. It’s just better.’
