‘Crime of passion’: Orania murder-suicide bombshell details

New details have emerged about the murder-suicide that recently took place in Orania between estranged couple Danie and Marlette van der Westhuizen.

The tragedy occurred in the Afrikaner-only settlement located in the Northern Cape.

The shooting took place in front of the couple’s 12-year-old daughter. A funeral service for the couple was held this week.

ORANIA MURDER-SUICIDE NEW DETAILS EMERGE

In a social media post by the platform Volkstaat, new bombshell allegations were shared about the murder-suicide that took place last month.

The X post read: “No longer can Orania lay claim to being a murder-free zone. On 31 March, Danie van der Westhuizen killed his wife, Marlette.

“Danie went overseas to work as a farmer in the US on an agricultural workers visa.

While he was away, Marlette had an affair. They split up. He returned to Orania and got a job as a supervisor. They tried to reconcile, but it didn’t work out.

“He shot her and then turned the gun on himself. Their 12-year-old daughter witnessed the murder/suicide, which occurred just days before her birthday.

“In response, the Orania community rallied around her, offering support and a small celebration of life despite the devastating circumstances.”

Volkstaat – which promotes Afrikaner rights – continued: “The entire Afrikaner community is in shock. Especially that such a thing could happen in Orania where the only acceptable crime statistic is ZERO”.

STILL THE SAFEST TOWN IN SA?

Although Orania does not have a police station, residents have previously claimed it’s because they “don’t need one.”

According to leaders, the town is protected by residents who actively patrol throughout the day and night.

CNN reported of the town in 2016:  “Crime levels are low, no doubt helped by its selective policies and requirements that permanent citizens are financially reliable on entry.”
