CRYSTAL BALL: What the future holds for Kaizer Chiefs stars Mdu & Dortley

2030 will be here sooner than we think, although even a day is a long time in football. Where will these Kaizer Chiefs stars be in five years?

Predicting a future for 2025’s Kaizer Chiefs superstars

In this situation, we’ve made a bold prediction that Njabulo Blom will return to the club permanently and become club captain and an Amakhosi legend. This team is the defending Betway Premiership champions, with Wandile Duba the reigning Golden Boot holder. Mduduzi Shabalala left the club in 2026 for three years to enjoy a stint in Portugal with Benfica. However, returned in 2029 and immediately resumed his wonderful partnership with Duba. At this stage, Rushwin Dortley is the record holder for most caps in a Bafana Bafana jersey; his tally of 108 eclipses the great Aaron Mokoena who amassed 107. Things haven’t gone according to plan for Samkelo Zwane, however, who continues to get rejected by the now-Bafana boss Benni McCarthy, but he has won over his doubters at club level under current Kaizer Chiefs manager Matthew Morton.

Transfers

Naledi Hlongwane, despite all of his early promise, failed to make the grade at Chiefs and was shipped out to lower-league side Baroka. Chiefs FINALLY landed Oswin Appollis with a R35 million move in 2027.

Predicted Amakhosi starting XI in 2030

Molefe; Dithejane, McCarthy, Dortley, Nkgwesa; Zwane, Blom; Shabalala, Vilakazi, Appollis; Duba.

Back to the present

Rewinding to 2025 and Chiefs are desperate to lure some quality players to Naturena. According to local reports, they’re keen on signing the experienced playmaker Neo Maema from Sundowns. The 29-year-old Bloemfontein-born star has been on the fringes at Sundowns this season, only making five league appearances. Maema moved to Sundowns from Royal AM in July 2021.
