EastEnders star Emma Barton has promised more ‘beautiful and sad’ twists ahead in the soap’s explosive 40th anniversary week.
The BBC soap has kicked off its milestone birthday with an explosion causing devastation at her character Honey Mitchell’s wedding celebrations to Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick).
On Tuesday, fans saw a blast tear through the Queen Vic as Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) and Reiss Colwell’s (Jonny Freeman) storylines collided in cataclysmic fashion, causing a blast to rip through the Queen Vic.
As the high-octane week of episodes continues, several Walford residents will face a fight for life as they are trapped under the rubble of the crumbling boozer.
Speaking about the events ahead, Emma teased that Wednesday’s one-long special and Thursday’s fully live instalment are not to be missed.
‘It’s going to be full on!’ she said. ‘Dramatic, beautiful and sad. It’s a week of episodes not to be missed.
‘It’s written and directed wonderfully, and the lead-up to it has been phenomenal.’

The actress also said she felt honoured to have Honey and Billy’s nuptials central to the action, as the couple have made various ill-fated trips down the aisle over the years.
She said: ‘Perry and I were both over the moon when we were told by the producers. It’s an honour to be using our wedding to get together for this wonderful and special birthday.
‘Perry and I have loved doing our weddings and it is quite funny that we’ve had four. I don’t know if this is a record breaker in soapland!’
EastEnders’ live episode airs on Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
