Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) was left utterly heartbroken in tonight’s episode of Emmerdale, as boyfriend Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) ended their relationship.
It’s been an incredibly difficult week for Jacob, who has spent a lot of time preparing for his mum Leyla Harding’s (Roxy Shahidi) funeral.
A few days ago, he learnt from Alicia and David that they wouldn’t be returning to the village for the event. This made Jacob feel angry, and also fuelled his feelings of loneliness.
It was Jacob’s isolation and dealing with multiple losses in a short period of time that impacted his decision to have a conversation with Sarah in tonight’s instalment.
When she arrived outside the church, Sarah was utterly taken aback when Jacob said they should split up.
Sarah was confused but when Jacob mentioned losing her, she knew he was focusing too much on her fanconi anaemia (FA), a rare, inherited bone marrow failure syndrome, which increases the risk of cancer and could mean she has a shorter than average life expectancy.
Following Leanna’s murder, David’s departure and Leyla’s death, Jacob was trying to prevent himself from further hurt and losing someone close to him again, and believed ending their relationship now would do just that.
Sarah was utterly devastated and tried to make Jacob change his mind, but he seemed pretty adamant.
What Jacob doesn’t know is that Sarah was planning on revealing some life-changing news to him, but what will their future look like now if he’s certain they can’t be together?
