Jake believes his time in the experiment was ‘misrepresented’ on MAFS Australia. He claims the producers left out lots of context that explained why he behaved in such a controversial way – including a health problem he was struggling with.
Jake told the Daily Mail Australia that he was suffering from a painful ear while MAFS was being filmed. He said: “I was on antibiotics for six weeks straight. I had pus leaking out of my ear every day. And they [the producers] told me, ‘Don’t mention it on camera.’”
He added: “I had a miserable time. I wasn’t happy.”
Apparently the ear infection left him emotionally and physically drained during the experiment. So he had less energy to build a relationship with his new bride Ashleigh.
Jake also blamed his controversial comments about the other brides during photo ranking challenge on the producers. Apparently the crew encouraged Jake to describe each bride for 30 seconds, which “forced” Jake to make those comments.
Jake claimed the producers cut out other events which explained why Jake was slower to bond with Ashleigh than some of the other couples. Apparently Ashleigh asked Jake about his future plans, and this put him off her for a while.
He said: “She was like, ‘I need to know if you’re going to be the father of my children.’ I’m just thinking, ‘Mate, I don’t even know what I’m having for breakfast tomorrow, let alone planning for that.’”
Erm, you’d think that if someone went on a show called Married At First Sight, they might be thinking about their long term plans? But apparently this wasn’t the case for Jake.
Jake also opened up about how he has struggled from the backlash to his comments during the photo ranking challenge. He said: “I thought I was going to lose my job. I was seriously worried about my future.”
