The eThekwini Municipality has reminded residents of Mpumalanga Township about a planned electricity outage from 15 February to 17 February.
The scheduled power outages will occur daily from 5:00 to 17:00 and aim to allow Eskom to refurbish the electrical infrastructure at the Georgedale Substation, which supplies power to the Mpumalanga Substation.
Furthermore, the eThekwini municipality explained the necessity of the maintenance work in a statement: “To execute this work safely, it is necessary to interrupt the electricity supply at the Mpumalanga Substation.”
Impact on eThekwini Residents and Businesses
The power outages will affect residents and businesses within Mpumalanga Township, and the municipality has also urged the public to plan accordingly.
“The maintenance work is required to improve the reliability of these substations, leading to a higher quality of electricity supply to the area,” said the Municipality.
Additionally, the municipality also reminded residents to treat all electrical installations as live during the power outage to ensure safety.
“During this [power] outage, the public is advised to treat all electrical installations live.”
Businesses in this eThekwini area have been advised to implement measures to mitigate the impact of the power interruptions.
Load shedding remains suspended
Meanwhile, Eskom confirmed on Friday, 7 February, that load shedding remains suspended. The system is stabilised, and emergency reserves are fully replenished.
In addition, the Kusile Unit has also returned to service after being offline for reconnection to the repaired Flue Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) system and main stack, as authorised by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE).
