Everyone is losing their head over hooded snoods – and the best alternatives to a scarf and hat combo

The iconic snood may remind many of their heydays wearing a bodycon skirt from Topshop, with a Jack Wills ribbed jumper, a leather jacket that could barely zip up and an oversized saggy snood to keep you ‘warm’, though it was a thick crochet knit that gaped all around the neck, which was counter productive.

Thankfully, the scarf and hood hybrid has been given a much needed makeover, and is back in fashion, like many other early 2000s trends.

Fashion brands have created snoods that slip over your head, almost like a balaclava, and resemble detachable hoods on a jacket.  However, they are often knitted instead of a padded quilt material.

Some snoods offer a tight fit that is snug to the head and neck to prevent any cold draughts from creeping in, while some are a looser fit with the option to tie it tighter around the face.

Other snoods resemble a baby bonnet and solely hug the head, while others have been extended to keep the neck and shoulders covered too.

The best part is those who often lose their hat or scarf should (hypothetically) avoid losing any accessories as this 2-in-1 is a lot easier to remember than a hat and scarf when you’re on the go – or so I tell myself.

You can slip a snood on underneath a jacket, or jumper, it is lightweight, and is less hassle than unravelling your long scarf when you make it indoors and need to shed your layers.

A snood can be worn up over your head, but also pulled down to cover your neck too.

COS, Ganni and Damson Madder are just some of the brands that have created stylish, yet comfortable, insulating and practical winter accessories.  Read on for more of our favourite snoods to suit your style and budget.
