Fans have hailed an upcoming summer romcom – starring Dakota Johnson and Pedro Pascal – a ‘nostalgic dream.’
Materialists follows a young, ambitious New York City matchmaker (Dakota), who finds herself torn between the perfect match (Pedro) and her imperfect ex (Chris Evans). The love triangle begins to have harsh and life-threatening effects on her clients as business mixes with romance.
‘When I see your face, I see wrinkles and children that look like you,’ Chris’ character John tells Dakota’s Lucy in the trailer in an attempt to win her over. ‘So where does that leave us?’
And romcom lovers are counting down the days to the film’s release – June 13 by the way.
@TayoPSG commented: ‘Dakota Johnson is Dwayne Johnson of Rom-Com. I just said it.’
EatMyPotat0 added: ‘Pedro Pascal, Chris Evans, and Dakota Johnson in one movie? This is cinema.’

Destiny Jackson tweeted: ‘I am a little worried when Dakota is at the helm of a film, but it seems like maybe she found her acting lane with this one? Looks kinda like a cutesy rom-drama of the mid 00s. I’ll be seated.’
@RyanW2801 penned: ‘This looks like it should’ve been released in 2008 starring Anne Hathaway, Chris Pine and Patrick Dempsey.’
The last film led by Dakota – Madame Webb – scored 11% on the Tomatometer – the lowest of any major superhero film in the last 10 years.

However, it wasn’t a total box office disaster – it pulled in $100million (£78.8million) at the box office against a production budget of around $80m (£63.1m) to $100m, just about breaking even.
Leading lady Dakota has been in a relationship with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin since 2017. The pair sparked engagement rumours in 2020, after the Hollywood star was seen wearing an emerald ring on that finger, but refused to confirm the reports at the time.
She lifted the lid slightly on their bond in a chat with Elle Magazine in 2021, enthusing: ‘We’ve been together for quite a while, and we go out sometimes, but we both work so much that it’s nice to be at home and be cozy and private.’

They were recently hit with split rumors in May when Chris gave a struggling fan a lift at Radio 1’s Big Weekend, who then rushed to Twitter to unpack her experience.
In an eyebrow-raising post, she said that they ‘had a nice chat’ during the journey, and claimed that he ‘is single’.
Dakota seemingly poured cold water on those claims at the time, when she was pictured taking in Coldplay’s headlining set at Glastonbury from the side of the stage in June.
‘They’ve had ups and downs, but now they’re definitely back on,’ an insider told People Magazine at the time, adding that they were ‘going strong’.
Materialists will be released on June 13.
