Five coaches who could replace Jose Riveiro at Pirates

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro could very well leave the club at the end of the season.

The 49-year-old is currently in his third and final season with the Buccaneers having helped them to five trophies. Late last year, the Spaniard hinted that he was missing his family back in Spain.

With his contract expiring in the next three months, there has not been a word from the Orlando Pirates management on whether Jose Riveiro is staying or not. Before the Spaniard joined the Sea Robbers, the Buccaneers struggled for consistency and often found themselves chopping and changing coaches.

The Bucs faithful have not celebrated a coach since Ruud Krol. The Dutch tactician helped the club to a historic treble in the 2010/11 season.

Here are five coaches who could replace Jose Riveiro at Pirates:

Pitso Mosimane

‘Jingles’ is unattached since leaving his post in Iran. The 60-year-old hasn’t coached a PSL team in five years but could welcome the challenge of coaching the Buccaneers.

Gavin Hunt

Hunt recently parted ways with SuperSport United and could get another opportunity to coach a big team. If Pirates fail to lure Mosimane, Hunt could be the next possible option of they intend to hire a local coach.

Stuart Baxter

The Englishman could make a return to the PSL if Pirates and Jose Riveiro part ways. Baxter had successful stints at SuperSport and Kaizer Chiefs in the last decade. His second stint with Amakhosi was less memorable though and only lasted one season.

Rulani Mokwena

Mokwena is currently on thin ice in Morocco. He hasn’t really impressed the Wydad Casablanca supporters despite improving the team this season. If he fails to finish in the top three, he might get the axe, thus making him available.

The 38-year-old mentor has coached Pirates before but fairly dismally. With the experience he gained at Sundowns and Wydad, he might be a perfect candidate to lead the team.

Adnan Beganovic

Beganovic is another coach who might replace Jose Riveiro at Pirates next season. He served as an assistant coach to Saed Ramovic since 2021. Since taking over at TS Galaxy, the Bosnian coach has impressed.

Will Riveiro leave the Buccaneers?
