Sadly, it was too late for the couple, who were found dead along with their dog in their Santa Fe mansion.
The neighborhood caretaker sobbed as he called 911 on Wednesday afternoon to report his discovery.
The caller, whose name was redacted, told cops he found one or two dead bodies in the house.
While the dispatcher put out a call for help, the caretaker was heard weeping and saying “damn” multiple times.
“Can you send someone really quick?” he asked.
The man was standing outside the house looking in when he saw the chilling scene.
He couldn’t find a way into the house before cops came but begged them to hurry to the scene.
When the dispatcher asked him questions about the names and ages of the late couple, he didn’t have answers.
It’s unclear if the man knew Hackman and Arakawa.
The longtime couple were found dead in separate rooms on Wednesday.
Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza said cops aren’t ruling out foul play in the deaths on Thursday.
However, he said there were no obvious signs of foul play.
When investigators got a search warrant to search the house after the late couple was found, detectives wrote the deaths were “suspicious.”
Cops found the front door of the New Mexico home unsecured and open.
