Travel across London can be a smooth affair – when everything is working and on time.

But, maintaining the massive Transport for London and rail network is a round-the-clock operation as it ferries millions of people each day.

It means some weekend works are regularly carried out to avoid the peak commuter rush hour.

This weekend brings a string of changes to South Wester Railway services at Clapham Junction, on the Elizabeth line and the Tube.

The strike by transport workers in London is expected to cause travel chaos with limited services on the Tube. Picture date: Thursday November 10, 2022.

The Central line will not run between Leytonstone and Hainault (via Woodford) and Epping from Saturday until Sunday.

The DLR (Docklands Light Railway) is out of action between Poplar and Stratford and West India Quay from Saturday until Sunday.

Meanwhile on the Overground, the Windrush line passengers cannot travel between Highbury and Islington to New Cross, New Cross Gate and Clapham Junction on Saturday and Sunday due to planned works, including during Friday and Saturday night services.

The Elizabeth line will have no service on Sunday until 7.45am between London Paddington station and Ealing Broadway.

There is no service on the Lioness Overground line between Euston and Kilburn High Road after 8.30pm.

South Western Railway changes this weekend

Network Rail announced maintenance works at a busy junction between Queenstown Road in Battersea and Clapham Junction.

It will affect trains between Waterloo and south London stations, Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire stations over the weekend.

Journeys will take longer than usual, so passengers should plan ahead, SWR said.

On Saturday, train service will be suspended between Clapham Junction and Barnes, the train operator warned.

Replacement buses will run between Clapham Junction and Barnes instead, while London Waterloo trains to Surrey, Berkshire, Woking and Hampshire will be diverted or start and stop from alternative stations.

On Sunday, buses replace trains between Clapham Junction and Twickenham via Richmond, and between Kew Bridge and Clapham Junction.
