Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) leader Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi is reported to have been arrested in Noushehro Feroze district.
He was taken into custody on Monday when he was returning from the court, where he managed to secure bail in an FIR of a police encounter.
GDA and nationalist parties term Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi’s arrest as political victimization.
As reported, hundreds of police officers stopped Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi outside the court, informing him that he was being arrested under a separate FIR filed in Moro taluka, Naushahro Feroze.
Instead of taking Jatoi to the Moro police station where he was booked, they transferred him to the B-Section police station in Shaheed Benazirabad district.
The police stated that non-bailable warrants had been issued by the Anti Terrorism Court on February 12 for Jatoi’s alleged involvement in an attack on Ali Baksh Jatoi polling station during last year’s general elections. The incident resulted in one death and three injuries.
In response to his arrest, Nawan Jatoi town in Naushahro Feroze—a stronghold of the Jatois—was closed down. After his arrest, Jatoi spoke to media outlets saying, “I am being coerced into submission through these fabricated cases, but I will not give in.”
