We have sad news for Greggs regulars, as a popular item has been given the boot.

The beloved bakery chain is as well known for its sandwiches as its pastries, but one lunchtime favourite – the ham and salad baguette – is officially off the menu.

Containing honey roast ham, tomato, cucumber, salad leaves, and mayonnaise, the baguette was typically priced at £4.15.

Customers have been left reeling in the wake of the menu shake up, with one even branding the decision to axe it as ‘scandalous’, as they’re now forced to rethink their order.

Reacting rather strongly to the news, @NePeach2 wrote on X: ‘I would have loved a ham salad baguette but for some bizarre reason you have stopped doing them! Scandalous!’

@Nicola__Pope also tweeted directly to Greggs, writing: ‘Was so upset to be told that your ham salad baguettes have been discontinued while at your Marlborough store today. That’s my midweek treat every week and seems to be very popular.’

@Foreverakumquat felt similarly, saying: ‘I’ve been in multiple stores and none have had any or even a place on the shelf where they would be. Surely it’s not that unpopular you’ve binned them?’

But the discourse didn’t stop on X, as Reddit users have started a whole thread titled, ‘Honey Roast Ham Salad Baguette discontinued?’

‘It was a popular sandwich, I don’t get it,’ wrote bekiis.

‘Devastated, it’s my favourite baguette of theirs!!’, added No-Blackberry3750.

There might be some light at the end of the tunnel for the ham and salad baguette lovers, as the wording of a statement from Greggs suggests we may not have seen the last of the baguette just yet.

The statement, from a Greggs spokesperson, says: ‘The ham salad baguette is taking a break from the menu; however, we still have an extensive range of freshly prepared baguettes for our customers to enjoy, including roast chicken & bacon club, tuna crunch, and Tandoori chicken.’

The ham and salad baguette is merely the latest casualty of Greggs menu changes, as last year, the vegan version of the iconic Steak Bake was removed.

Fortunately for customers hoping to explore the plant-based offerings, though, the item did later return, meaning there is still hope for ham and salad baguette lovers.

And to fill the lunchtime void for the time being, customers could always order the ham and egg salad roll as an alternative which costs £3.25.

It’s not all bad news either, as for every item removed from their menu, it seems Greggs adds another.

Earlier this year, stores expanded their hot food selection after a successful trial run, adding a range of chicken burgers and fish finger sandwiches.

They also now stock a BBQ crispy chicken burger and a BBQ chicken wrap.
