Adolescence viewers are convinced the Netflix drama’s breakout star Owen Cooper is destined for Hollywood superstardom.
In the four-part, one-shot drama – his first professional acting job – Owen plays a 13-year-old schoolboy who has been accused of murdering his female classmate.
Owen was handpicked by Adolescence’s writers Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne out of 500 budding thesps and has blown viewers away with his performance.
On Facebook, Metro readers have tipped Owen as a future Oscar winner.
Michael Stenning was among those raving about his acting chops, writing: ‘I’m watching it now and what a kid unbelievable good things for this kid.’

Echoing their sentiment, Steve Wilkins said: ‘He was superb and has got a brilliant career ahead of him.’
Bernadette Keane raved: ‘This was brilliant the actors were all so professional and this kid has a great future ahead of him.’
Judy Diane Dickinson also added: ‘Love it he’s a great actor.’
Owen previously revealed to Metro that the most challenging aspect of Adolescence was delving into Jamie’s troubling mindset.
‘The most challenging part for me was I did episode three first, and it was just trying to get into Jamie’s head about girls and stuff,’ Owen said, referencing the episode where Jamie is having a one-on-one conversation with psychologist Briony Ariston (Erin Doherty).
‘That aspect of it was a bit difficult at first, but then I got comfortable with it, and then with the help of Stephen and Phil [director Philip Barantini] and Erin, they helped me into it. But I’ll probably say his view on other people is the most challenging part of Jamie to play.’
As the show progresses, more details emerge about the mindsets of teenagers at the school, how young boys are being influenced by the online ‘manosphere’ community and how something as simple as an emoji in an Instagram comment can mean that someone is being accused of being an ‘incel’.
Adolescence has sparked nationwide conversation with even Sir Keir Starmer, who revealed during Prime Minister’s Questions that he was watching it with his two children, backing calls for the show to be screened in schools.
Owen previously said he hoped the drama would have an impact: ‘I hope that to the parents it’ll open an eye to them, definitely. Kids’ social media is them. It’s their personal life, but you never know what your child’s doing online, especially with Jamie.’
The young actor, who has been dubbed the ‘Lionel Messi of the acting game’ by his co-star Ashley Walters, has already bagged his next role in a blockbuster project.
He has joined Hollywood stars Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie in Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of Wuthering Heights.
Owen is believed to be playing the younger version of Jacob’s character, Heathcliff, in the classic gothic novel.
Speaking to Variety, he previously said the Wuthering Heights shoot had been going ‘really well’ and described director Emerald as ‘lovely’.
Owen also said Jacob and the Barbie actor would regularly talk to him while they were having their makeup done for the film.
