People who watched the Oscars last night were furious when they saw Michelle Trachtenberg was not honoured with a memoriam tribute like many other celebrities who had recently passed away before the event.
Michelle Trachtenberg was found tragically dead in her New York City flat on February 26th at just 39 years old. She was known for her roles in Gossip Girl and Buffy the Vampire Slayer and was believed to have “died of natural causes,” according to ABC News. However, police sources also told ABC News that she might have suffered complications following a liver transplant.

The memoriam segment of the Oscars 2025 began with a tribute from Morgan Freeman to the recently deceased Gene Hackman. The montage then also recognised many other famous faces who passed away last year, including Maggie Smith, James Earl Jones and David Lynch.
Why wasn’t Michelle Trachtenberg included in the memoriam section?
Some people have claimed that she didn’t get recognition because she died five days ago and the memoriam was prepared long before then. The memoriam was only meant to include those who had died before the 1st of February. However, people aren’t happy with that response because Gene Hackman was included and he died even more recently than Michelle, on the 27th of February. Having said that, Gene Hackman won two Oscars throughout his career.

It wasn’t just Michelle who was left out either. People have also singled out the Academy for leaving out Tony Todd, Shannen Doherty, Martin Mull and Linda Lavin from the memoriam tribute to those in the industry who had passed away since last year.
