In his first two seasons at Orlando Pirates, José Riveiro has strived to transform the club from pretenders to contenders. This effort has been somewhat successful, as the Sea Robbers have secured the MTN 8 in each of his seasons at the club, along with Nedbank Cup glory as well.
Now, Jose Riveiro is aiming to seize the Betway Premiership from Mamelodi Sundowns.
The current season has the potential to develop into an exhilarating title race. Orlando Pirates are 15 points adrift of Sundowns but possess four matches in hand. If they can win all these matches, they will find themselves only three points behind Mamelodi Sundowns.
That is an achievement and a sign of improvement, as Pirates have not been so close to Sundowns before in Jose Riveiro’s first two seasons at the club. Orlando Pirates have experienced real growth during his tenure at the club.
This is why some of the senior players from the Orlandi Pirates have urged Jose Riveiro to stay with the Sea Robbers.

“We’ve built a strong powerhouse in terms of the team that we have assembled over the last three years, and it won’t sit well with many of us for him to leave and it will unsettle a lot of things. I hope he doesn’t leave,” Tapelo Xoki revealed on the Bucs Camp documentary.
Namibian Deon Hotto stated that the current uncertainty regarding the future of Jose Riveiro has not diverted them from their objectives for the season.
“To be honest and sincere, it’s not something that is hindering us at the moment because our main focus is all about us achieving what we wanted to achieve at the start of the season,” Hotto stated.
