Kaizer Chiefs could lose top midfielder – report

It has been another season of mixed fortunes for Kaizer Chiefs, with the Glamour Boys currently sitting mid-table in the Betway Premiership, while a daunting Nedbank Cup semi-final against Sundowns could spell trouble for a potentially trophyless season once again.

At the start of the year, Kaizer Chiefs did bolster their ranks with the signing of three talented players, namely Thabo Cele, Tashreeq Morris, and Glody Makabi Lilepo.

The club has also already begun to make plans for next season, which has seen the likes of Edson Castillo and Ashley du Preez reportedly signing extensions.

However, according to the ever-reliable SABC Sport, midfielder George Matlou is now assessing his future options with the club after fighting his way back from injury earlier this season.

The report suggests that a contract extension has yet to be tabled, and that the midfielder could now leave on a free transfer from July onwards.

It remains to be seen if something will change in the weeks and months to come, but this is certainly not the news Chiefs fans will want to hear.

KAIZER CHIEFS CANNOT AFFORD TO LOSE A TOP TALENT

After eliminating Stellenbosch from this season’s Nedbank Cup with a 3-1 thumping in Gqeberha on Saturday night, Amakhosi are now shifting their focus back to the Betway Premiership as they prepare to welcome Cape Town City FC to the FNB Stadium on Wednesday.

Chiefs will be looking for a win against City after losing their first round match played at the beginning of the year in Cape Town.

Before Saturday’s Nedbank Cup match, Chiefs beat Magesi 1-0 at FNB Stadium in their last league encounter. The Citizens, on the other hand, ahave not won in eight matches, with their last win coming on 17 January.

On the current log, Chiefs are in eighth position with 28 points after 20 matches and the Citizens are 10th with 22 points after playing 21 games.

Amakhosi will need to pick up maximum points from the two home games as they want to ensure that they collect as many as possible to improve their position in the log standings.

DO YOU THINK MATLOU SHOULD STAY OR GO?
