Kaizer Chiefs have been hit with a big blow regarding news of one of their top performing players this season.
Chiefs have largely been able to keep the same centre back pairing this season, but that has changed of late.
Chiefs bought a new centre back pairing
Last season Chiefs struggled to both defend and score goals. This season has been a similar story for Amakhosi, with a slight improvement. That could possibly be attributed to a consistent centre back pairing of new signings Inacio Miguel and Rushwin Dortley. The duo have struggled to keep clean sheets but have, at times, shown signs of a pairing which compliments each other.
Once could even go as far as saying that over time Miguel and Dortley will eventually form a solid partnership. That will have to come with minutes on the pitch, of course and that will be put on hold for now. This comes after Chiefs revealed that the Bafana Bafana international has gone under the knife over his knee injury.
Dortley out for the foreseeable future
“Kaizer Chiefs defender Rushwin Dortley has successfully undergone knee surgery following an injury sustained during a recent league match at the beginning of the month. The unfortunate incident left the talented player sidelined for the past three matches, against Magesi FC, Stellenbosch FC and Cape Town City. for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers. Dortley’s injury has also affected his international prospects. He was looking forward to representing Bafana Bafana in their upcoming World Cup qualifiers next week after making the preliminary squad list – a call-up that he will now have to sacrifice as he focuses on recovery.” Wrote the club’s website.
Chiefs also offered a glimmer of hope, adding that they hoped the injury would not be a season-ender for Dortley.
Still hope he will return this season
“The surgery was deemed essential to ensure a full recovery, and reports indicate it went smoothly. Amakhosi’s medical team is optimistic about Dortley’s prognosis, which is encouraging both for the player and the Club. While the timeline for his return remains uncertain, there is hope that he will be back on the field donning the iconic Gold & Black colours in the not too distant future.” The Chiefs site continued.
