Kaizer Chiefs hit with injury blow: Season in doubt

Kaizer Chiefs hit with injury blow, as a star player’s season in doubt.

Chiefs supporters are growing anxious over the prolonged absence of defender Reeve Frosler. The 27-year-old right-back has missed the last two Betway Premiership matches, sparking questions about the severity of his shoulder injury and whether he will return before the season ends.

Frosler has been a key figure under coach Nasreddine Nabi, starting 19 games and making two substitute appearances. However, with him sidelined, Dillan Solomons has stepped up in the league clashes against Richards Bay FC and Golden Arrows.

Chiefs struggle with mounting injury list

Injuries have plagued Amakhosi this season, leaving Nabi with limited options. Rushwin Dortley is out for the remainder of the campaign after suffering a serious knee injury, while Happy Mashiane and Tashreeq Morris are also recovering from setbacks.

Adding to the team’s woes, Thabo Cele became the latest casualty after being forced off during the 2-1 defeat to Golden Arrows last weekend. Now, Chiefs must navigate upcoming fixtures without another key player, as Frosler remains sidelined.

How long will Frosler be out?

Frosler’s shoulder injury has forced him to wear a sling for several weeks, crucial for immobilizing the joint and aiding tissue healing. Typically, a dislocated shoulder requires 12 to 16 weeks for full recovery, making his return before the season’s conclusion in May highly unlikely.

With limited time left in the campaign, Frosler’s absence leaves Nabi weighing his defensive options. Aside from Solomons, Njabulo Blom is another potential candidate to fill in at right-back. Chiefs will need all the depth they can muster as they prepare for their upcoming league fixture against TS Galaxy on Saturday, followed by a crucial Nedbank Cup semifinal against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Can Chiefs break their trophy drought?

Chiefs have gone nearly a decade without silverware, making the Nedbank Cup a golden opportunity to end their long-standing drought. However, overcoming a powerhouse like Sundowns without key players will be a significant challenge.

Meanwhile, Frosler’s future remains uncertain. His contract with Chiefs expires in June, but the club has reportedly offered him a new deal. Whether he stays or departs, his absence in the final stretch of the season could prove costly for Amakhosi’s ambitions.
