Kaizer Chiefs promote another young defender

Kaizer Chiefs have promoted another talented youngster from their development structures. Can he crack the first team?

Chiefs promote Nkgwesa

19-year-old utility defence Kabelo Nkgwesa has been promoted to the club’s first-team setup. With Happy Mashiane failing to impress when given a chance at left-back, Bradley Cross is the club’s only genuine option in that position. Edmilson Dove, just back from injury, is the wrong side of 30 and a natural central defender.

Le Roux is an option for Kaizer Chiefs, but he has options too

According to Siseko Gwegwe’s online investigations, 24-year-old Bafana Bafana and Värnamo midfield dynamo Luke Le Roux is a target for Chiefs. However, they’ll likely face competition from Sundowns. Le Roux already has extensive experience in Europe after stints with Sweden and the Netherlands. He’s also got seven caps for Bafana Bafana, earning his debut for South Africa in September 2022. This midfield schemer has the backing of Hugo Broos, but does he want a return to Mzansi?

Why do Chiefs want to loan Ngcobo out?

According to SoccerLaduma, the Kaizer Chiefs hierarchy are considering sending Nkosingiphile Ngcobo out on loan next season. Injuries have ravaged the last two seasons for the 25-year-old Amakhosi youth product. He made the step up to senior football in 2017 but has only managed 98 appearances for the club across all competitions in that time with seven goals and three assists. He’s only managed four appearances in 2024-2025. Is that good enough for a player of his undoubted talent?
