Kaizer Chiefs are casting their net far and wide as they seek to fill a few gaping gaps in their current playing squad.
Chiefs turn to Durban City schemer
According to Soccer Laduma, Kaizer Chiefs are plotting a move for 31-year-old Durban City midfielder Athini Jodwana.
“He is one of the local players that they have been monitoring. They are exploring all possibilities as they may not sign some of the desired and wanted players. But he is also a very good midfielder with experience, having played for Chippa United before. So as much as they have enquired about him, they are still believed to be looking at finalising the shopping list for next season, and Athini Jodwana is one of them,” the source revealed.
Is this the start of a new Kaizer Chiefs generation?
19-year-old utility defender Kabelo Nkgwesa has been promoted to the club’s first-team setup. With Happy Mashiane failing to impress when given a chance at left-back, Bradley Cross is the club’s only genuine option in that position. Edmilson Dove, just back from injury, is the wrong side of 30 and a natural central defender. Nkgwesa could be an interesting prospect in a position Chiefs have struggled to fill in the trophy drought era.
When is Kaizer Chiefs’ next match?
The Glamour Boys host TS Galaxy on Saturday, 05 April in their next Betway Premiership match. Kickoff is at 15:00. A defeat against Golden Arrows last time out has cranked up the pressure on head coach Nasreddine Nabi, who simply has to secure a top-eight finish to keep his job. Fourth-placed Galaxy are six points ahead of Chiefs in fourth place, although eighth-placed Chiefs do have a game in hand on the Rockets.
Would Jodwana be a good signing or a rather underwhelming one?
