Kaizer Chiefs to employ Khune in surprise new role – Latest

Itumeleng Khune is revered by Kaizer Chiefs fans. Is the former goalkeeper returning to the hallowed Naturena soon?

Chiefs want Khune back in a marketing role

Not even a full season after playing his final game for Chiefs, the club is looking to employ the legendary goalkeeper in a new role.

“Yes, the club still wants to work with Itu (Khune),” a source told SoccerLaduma.

“They feel that he still has a lot to offer outside the playing field and that’s why the talks never stopped. The club understands that he has other responsibilities in his life but they are looking at a possible way of formulating a conducive working partnership which will suit both parties and that’s why they are still talking to him regarding that position in the marketing and commercial department with Jessica.

An additional source added: “For now it could be for the marketing and commercial department but they also want him to do his coaching badges and impart his knowledge to the young and upcoming goalkeepers. The club believes he still has a lot to contribute to the team in terms of teaching the young goalkeepers the ropes as he has been there and done almost everything for the team. So, no matter which department works for him, the club still wants him back.”

Khune’s legacy is cemented at Kaizer Chiefs

Itumeleng Issac Khune has the rare honour of being a one-club man. Famous around the world for his sensational distribution of a football, he’s also displayed superb shot-stopping abilities for club and country. Khune made his PSL debut for Amakhosi against Jomo Cosmos in August 2007. In the 17 years that have elapsed, he has scooped seven major honours with the Glamour Boys. That tally includes three Betway Premiership crowns in 2005, 2013 and 2015. This guy was also PSL Footballer of the Year in 2013. Say what you will, but Khune is a bona fide Amakhosi legend. He’s also got 91 Bafana caps.
