Kaizer Chiefs failed to capitalise on AmaZulu’s and Polokwane’s defeat, drawing 0-0 against Cape Town City.
Mduduzi Shabalala squandered the chance of the night, dragging his shot wide while one-on-one against ‘keeper Darren Keet. AmaKhosi remain rooted at eighth on the log, five points adrift from third-placed Sekhukhune United, the last available African qualification spot.
While Nasreddine Nabi’s side has struggled to establish consistency, the talent within his squad is undeniable; below lists its most expensive players.
Top five
- Spiwe Msimango (R23.3 million)
- Reeve Frosler (R19.98 million)
- Ashley Du Preez (R19.98 million)
- Yusuf Maart (R19.98 million)

Kaizer Chiefs get creative
According to reports, Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has formulated a new transfer strategy, whereby the club targets foreign-based players, such as Bafana defender Sphephelo Sithole.
“The coach has apparently noticed that signing players from rival teams locally is very difficult and that’s why they want to see if they can get players from outside South Africa,” SoccerLaduma confirmed.
“Of course, the club is still to get the players they need locally but if they can’t then they will go outside the country and that’s why they have reignited their interest in Yaya [Sithole]. He is actually back on their radar,
“They believe he can complement the team very well with the current midfielders of [Gaston] Sirino, [Mdu] Shabalala, [Ox] Mthethwa, [Thabo] Cele, [Yusuf] Maart and even [Edson] Castillo. So, they will be looking at how they can bring him in now.”
