Kaizer Chiefs update: Wandile Duba, Nedbank Cup, MTN8

Kaizer Chiefs fans welcomed Wandile Duba with open arms following a knee injury that ruled him out for over a month.

Unable to make a difference, the 20-year-old was reintroduced moments after Yanela Mbuthuma’s strike extended the host’s lead, sinking AmaKhosi’s hearts and cementing them to eighth on the log.

Still, Duba’s return should instil some much-needed optimism heading into the business end of the season. Kaizer Chiefs are eyeing MTN8 qualification but have Chippa United and today’s opponents, Golden Arrows, in hot pursuit.

Then there’s the Nedbank Cup. Nasreddine Nabi’s side cruised into the semi-finals knowing it is their last chance to lift some silverware this season – some Duba magic could make it happen.

Transfer budget increase

AmaKhosi have become synonymous with spending sprees, luring in ten players last offseason alone. The upcoming winter window is shaping up to be no different after Kaizer Chiefs executives agreed on an R20 million transfer budget increase.

“It’s believed that the club has already come up with the budget for next season, and it’s believed to be R80 million. You know, last season they started with R50 million, which they raised to R60 million in the January transfer window, and that means they are raising it by R20 million,” a source revealed.

“It’s because they are looking at signing quality with most of the players that they are targeting. So, their intentions are looking good with the new budget,” the source revealed.”
