Karachi’s University Road has been closed due to damage to a water pipeline caused by ongoing construction work on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project.
The incident has triggered significant traffic chaos in the area. Water Board officials and machinery have been deployed near Old Sabzi Mandi to repair the damaged line, aiming to restore normalcy as soon as possible.
The closure has disrupted traffic between Hassan Square and New Town, forcing commuters to take alternative routes.
The city’s traffic police have implemented a comprehensive traffic plan to manage the flow of vehicles during these events, diverting heavy traffic from various areas to minimize congestion.
The BRT project has previously caused similar disruptions due to damage to water mains, leading to water supply suspensions in several areas of Karachi.
The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has sought compensation from TransKarachi, the company responsible for the BRT project, for the damages incurred during these incidents.
