South Korean actor Kim Soo-hyun recently held an emotional press conference to address allegations that he dated actress Kim Sae-ron when she was underage.
Kim Soo-hyun, known for his roles in “My Love from the Star” and “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay,” denied these claims, stating that he never dated Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor.
He confirmed that they were in a relationship for about a year between 2019 and 2020, after she had become an adult.
The controversy began when a YouTube channel released videos and photos suggesting a six-year relationship starting in 2016, when Kim Sae-ron was 15. Her family’s lawyer also presented chat logs from 2016, further fueling the allegations.
Kim Soo-hyun’s agency, GoldMedalist, has been accused of pressuring Kim Sae-ron to repay a debt before her death in February 2025.

During the press conference, Kim Soo-hyun became tearful as he denied the allegations, emphasizing that he could not admit to something he did not do.
He expressed regret for not addressing the rumors earlier and acknowledged that his decision to deny their relationship during the airing of his Netflix drama “Queen of Tears” was to protect the production.
He stated that their relationship occurred about five years ago, when she was an adult, and lasted for approximately one year.
“I did not date her when she was a minor,” Kim said at the emotional news conference, where he declined to take questions. “Apart from the fact that we were both actors, we were just an ordinary couple like anyone else. We had feelings for each other, and as time passed, we eventually parted ways.”
Kim Soo-hyun claimed that KakaoTalk messages from 2016 and 2018 were fabricated. He presented a linguistic analysis report from a private forensic firm, Trubaum, which suggested that he had not sent the messages.
He announced that he has filed a defamation lawsuit against Kim Sae-ron’s family and a YouTube channel that made the allegations.

Kim Sae-ron, who passed away at the age of 24, was a prolific child actor known for her roles in films like “Brand New” and “Man From Nowhere”.
The allegations have led to significant backlash against Kim Soo-hyun, with some brands severing ties with him.
