Lockie Ferguson Ruled Out of ICC Champions Trophy with Foot Injury; Kyle Jamieson Steps In

Lockie Ferguson, the 33-year-old New Zealand fast bowler, has been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to a foot injury he sustained during a warm-up match against Afghanistan on Sunday.

However, earlier reports suggested that he suffered a hamstring injury while playing in the International League T20 in the UAE.

Ferguson will be replaced by Kyle Jamieson in New Zealand’s squad for the tournament. Jamieson returns after recovering from a back injury that kept him out of action for nearly a year.

“We’re really disappointed for Lockie,” said New Zealand coach Gary Stead, whose side play hosts and defending champions Pakistan in Karachi on Wednesday in the opening match.

“Lockie is a key part of the bowling group and brings a lot of major tournament experience and we know how much he was looking forward to representing New Zealand at another major event.”

New Zealand faces another challenge with Ben Sears also being sidelined due to a hamstring complaint. The team will rely on younger seamers like Will O’Rourke and Jacob Duffy alongside Matt Henry as their senior fast bowler.
