LOG STANDINGS: How the URC table looks after 13 matches

The Bulls, Sharks and Stormers made it a solid three from four wins for South African franchises in round 13 of the URC this past weekend.

Heading into this home stretch of the round-robin phase of the season, the Bulls, Lions, Sharks and Stormers were all in the playoff conversation. However, following the completion of round 13, some all but secured their knockout stage participation, while others’ bid came to an abrupt halt.

The Bulls clinched a dramatic 21-20 victory over Leinster, ending the Irish giants’ 12-game winning streak in the league and as a result, Jake White’s side moved up to third in the rankings.

The Sharks ground out a hard-fought 35-34 triumph over Zebre to retain their top four status, while the Stormers eased past the Scarlets 29-17 to move into the final playoff spot.

In a South African context, it was only the Lions that lost ground in the URC standings, following their agonising 20-17 defeat to Cardiff.
