A MAJOR motorway has been shut after crash between three cars and a lorry forced a section of the road to be blocked off.
Drivers heading towards Gatwick Airport this morning are bracing for chaos as emergency services rush to the scene of a collision.

A multi-vehicle crash this morning in Surrey on the M23 has lead to heavy congestion and standstill traffic.
Cops, Surrey Fire & Rescue service and South East Coast Ambulance arrived at the scene and sections of the road are now closed off.
The smash, which happened between junction J9, Gatwick, and J10, Crawley, has lead to a section of the road to be blocked off leaving thousands of motorist stuck.
National Highways South-East said: “M23 south between J9 GatwickAirport & J10 Crawley following a multi-vehicle collision.
“Surrey Police, Surrey Fire & Rescue service and South East Coast Ambulance are all working at scene, Traffic Officers assisting with traffic management Diversion via ‘Hollow Diamond.’”
Drivers have been asked to use the M23 southbound at junction 9 onto the Gatwick Spur to avoid the congestion.
Sussex Police said: “The M23 is closed southbound between junction 9 and 10, in the Pound Hill, Crawley, area this morning while emergency services deal with a collision.
“The road is expected to remain closed for some time, and motorists are asked to please avoid the area if possible.”
One driver shared a photo of the traffic, writing: “M23 southbound between M25 & J9.”
